Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conducts building inspections, both in person and via video, for new and existing residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with City of Tucson adopted building codes (ICC codes), regulations, ordinances, policies, and approved construction documents. Inspections cover plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural, energy, accessibility, and other building systems. Records deficiencies for follow-up inspections.
Reads, interprets, and reviews blueprints and technical construction documents to verify construction conforms to approved plans and applicable codes.
Maintains accurate inspection records by entering data and comments into the City’s permitting system. Follows up with customers via phone or email regarding inspection results and inquiries.
Provides guidance, clarification, education, and training to residential inspectors, monitors progress, reviews reports, and recommends improvements to processes and practices.
Investigates and resolves complex customer complaints and permit issues, coordinating with customers and, when necessary, outside agencies while maintaining professionalism and integrity.
Assists with scheduling inspections, entering inspection data, and communicating with permit holders. Seeks supervisor guidance as needed.
Monitors assigned City vehicle maintenance, ensures proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is used and maintained, and enforces safety protocols in the office and field.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
