This is an exciting opportunity to play a strategic role in supporting Washington State University’s financial health, long-range planning, and commitment to excellence. As a Budget & Policy Analyst, you will join a collaborative, high-impact team that works closely with leaders across the institution to shape policies, guide financial decision-making, and strengthen the University’s ability to deliver on its mission.

In this role, you will analyze complex financial data, support development of the biennial and supplemental budget requests, and help create and refine budgetary and accounting policies that affect the entire University. You will have the opportunity to build strong partnerships with colleges, campuses, and administrative units by providing clear guidance, meaningful insights, and responsive support. Your work will directly influence major institutional initiatives, revenue and expenditure forecasts, special programs, and systemwide financial planning.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $4,942.10 - $7,569.55 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or public administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of experience in finance or budget administration which has included the use and development of spreadsheets, graphics and databases. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint for collaboration and document management.

  • Experience performing complex data and financial analysis rapidly and accurately.

  • Experience analyzing the effects of proposed rules, regulations, policies and/ or procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment, tact and diplomacy.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad spectrum of personnel: from executives to departmental administrators to fiscal and office support staff.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in business administration, public administration, business management, accounting, or related field.

  • Experience preparing and explaining ad hoc reports to internal and external constituencies.

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization involving large data sets.

  • Experience working in higher education.
