Job Summary

The Budget Builder plays a key role in supporting clinical trials by developing accurate, compliant investigator grant budgets aligned with clinical study protocols. This position partners closely with clinical, finance, and contracting teams to ensure budgets reflect study design, operational complexity, and country‑specific considerations.

This role contributes directly to high‑quality study start‑up and execution by translating protocol requirements into clear, consistent, and well‑structured budget outputs across regions.

 

Job Description

This role is responsible for building, reviewing, and maintaining investigator and site budgets using standardized tools, templates, and financial frameworks. The position requires a strong understanding of clinical trial protocols, schedules of assessments, and operational drivers in order to accurately map procedures and associated costs.

The Budget Builder works in close collaboration with cross‑functional partners to support negotiations, maintain data accuracy, and contribute to continuous improvement in budgeting practices. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys analytical work, precision, and making a meaningful impact on clinical research delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain investigator grant and site budgets using approved templates and standardized cost frameworks

  • Interpret clinical trial protocols, schedules of assessments, and visit structures to accurately map procedures and costs

  • Analyze key cost drivers such as visit frequency, procedural complexity, patient burden, and country‑specific considerations

  • Prepare country‑specific budget outputs and documentation to support timely and effective negotiations

  • Partner with clinical operations, finance, compliance and site contracting teams to clarify protocol requirements and resolve routine questions

  • Ensure budget data is accurately entered, tracked, and maintained in approved systems with appropriate version control

  • Support variance analysis and scenario‑based budget modelling as studies evolve

  • Identify recurring budgeting challenges and contribute insights to improve processes and consistency

  • Proactively flag potential financial, compliance, or protocol‑related risks to appropriate stakeholders

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline

  • Experience in clinical trial budgeting, investigator grants, or financial support of clinical research

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate protocol complexity into structured budget outputs

  • High attention to detail and comfort working within standardized frameworks and processes

  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions and regions

  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with budgeting or financial tracking tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting multinational or multi‑regional clinical studies

  • Familiarity with fair market value principles and clinical trial budget governance

  • Experience working with clinical trial contracting or budgeting systems

 

Travel Required

  • Up to 10%, as needed for regional collaboration and meetings
