To support this mission, the BT Strategy team is responsible for developing the long-term vision for BT, setting goals and objectives, and ensuring that we have the right plans in place to move with speed at scale. The team collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, business partners, and executives to understand the needs and priorities of the business, and supports the development of strategies that will help BT meet those needs.About the Role
The IT Asset and Vendor Governance Lead is a high-impact, strategic role responsible for overseeing the lifecycle management of the company's critical technology assets (specifically Software Asset Management - SAM) and defining the governance structure for our key vendor relationships. This role requires deep partnership with Procurement to implement processes that ensure maximum value, minimize risk, and drive efficiency across all vendor agreements and software licenses. A key mandate is to establish a rigorous, tier-based vendor governance model, lead governance for Tier 1 strategic vendors, and spearhead programs for software asset rationalization and license reclamation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vendor Governance & Strategic Sourcing Partnership
Tier-Based Governance Model: Design, implement, and maintain a formal, tier-based vendor governance framework that scales oversight efforts according to vendor criticality, risk, and spend.
Tier 1 Vendor Management: Directly lead the governance and performance management processes for the company’s most strategic (Tier 1) vendors, ensuring performance against contractual SLAs and realization of expected value.
Procurement Partnership & Oversight: Collaborate extensively with Procurement partners to integrate governance checkpoints into the vendor lifecycle, focusing on strategic oversight for all major contract renewals and new vendor onboarding.
Risk & Compliance: Identify and mitigate risks associated with vendor dependencies, including compliance with contractual terms and security requirements.
2. Software Asset Management (SAM) & Efficiency Programs
Software Asset Rationalization: Lead a cross-functional program to inventory, analyze, and optimize the existing software portfolio, resulting in the elimination of redundant tools and consolidation of licenses.
License Reclamation: Develop and implement processes and tooling to track software utilization proactively, enabling the effective and automated reclamation of unused licenses to generate cost savings.
Improved Software Approval Process: Redefine and streamline the software request and approval workflow, ensuring new purchases are aligned with architectural standards and existing enterprise agreements.
Audit Defense: Maintain robust and accurate software entitlement records to proactively prepare for and successfully navigate potential vendor license audits.
3. Process Development & Policy Enforcement
Policy Ownership: Own and enforce internal policies and standards related to IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Vendor Management.
Tooling & Data Integrity: Manage the ITAM system (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera) to ensure accurate and complete data regarding software entitlements, usage, and vendor contracts.
Reporting: Provide executive-level reporting on vendor performance, realized software cost savings, license compliance exposure, and upcoming renewal risks.

Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
