Description

The Nursing Project Coordinator (NPC) is responsible for leading, assessing, organizing, and evaluating various functions and projects that focus on enhancing nursing quality, professional practice, patient/nursing satisfaction and financial performance. NPC’s demonstrate a high level of analytical ability in order to interpret complex data and create reports that inform improvement activities. NPC’s oversee nursing projects and scheduled nursing communications. Chairs Nursing Practice & Policy Council and ensures nursing policies/procedures comply with regulatory standards and reflect current evidence. Acts as a mentor and role model for the division of nursing. Other duties and responsibilities dependent on department. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 3 years of progressive leadership responsibility required 5 years' experience. Master's degree in Nursing preferred

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan; Certification in specialty preferred Membership in professional organization related to area preferred

  • Progressively more responsible experience in varied educational or administrative roles preferred involving meeting management, group facilitation, project management, time management and excellent communication skills

  • Working knowledge of nursing practice and regulatory standards required

  • Project management skills required

  • Advanced word processing, spreadsheet, flow diagram, presentation program, and other (multiple) software relevant to the job required

  • Ability to navigate literature search engines, conduct literature searches, evaluate evidence, and apply references in APA format

  • Effective meeting facilitation and excellent verbal and writing/editing skills required

  • Able to prioritize and organize multiple projects and responsibilities independently

  • Project management skills required

  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action

  • Any special skill or abilities that may not be clear by the educational requirements or need further explanation, e.g. typing, word processing, personal computers, etc.

  • Must possess the ability to synthesize large volumes of data and create accurate concise reports/graphics. Work which produces very high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. CRT work between 70 and 90 percent of the time, and work involving extremely close tolerances and considerable hand/eye coordination for sustained periods of time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.

Nursing Practice, Policy and Procedure Management

  • Chairs the BMH and System Nursing Practice and Policy Council

  • Collects, evaluates and incorporates input from multidisciplinary teams and department representatives to ensure effective policy/protocol/procedure documents

  • Collaborates to ensure policies and procedures are developed and updated to coincide with nursing practice, technology and equipment changes

  • Assures policies / procedures comply with regulatory standards (three year review)

  • Actively recognizes and reinforces consistent committee participation

  • Coordinates approval for new / substantively reviewed policies

  • Communicates monthly updates/changes to the nursing division

  • Recruits new members in collaboration with nurse managers as needed

  • Supports evidence-based inquiry / research to inform nursing practice.

  • Reviews, evaluates, recommends and incorporates current literature and supporting references for nursing evidence-based practice enhancements

  • Applies pertinent references to nursing manual documents obtained through review of EBP Internship projects

  • Reviews pertinent/current literature to provide customers with up-to-date information relevant to quality assessment and improvement

  • Supports nursing practice initiatives by ensuring they: Conform to national nursing standards, meet regulatory requirements and scope of practice standards, follow current evidence, Adhere to hospital policy

  • Uses influence to promote adoption of new nursing practice initiatives

  • Demonstrates leadership, collaboration, critical thinking, and analysis when addressing issues, creating solutions, developing action plans and validating impact.

  • Identifies practice concerns and works collaboratively with colleagues to resolve issues and implement identified changes.

  • Participates/serves as lead on nursing projects, such as those related to nursing initiatives and practice changes impacting nursing policy

Professional Practice and Professional Governance Support

  • Functions as a role model and nursing advocate

  • Provides guidance and support to the professional governance councils to improve quality outcomes, safety, patient satisfaction, and promote professional practice.

  • Mentors Professional Governance officers and committee members focusing on leadership development

  • Coordinates special projects

  • Leads/supports professional recognition and enrichment activities

  • Plans and participates in community service and education projects/presentations

  • Coordinates nursing communication across the division of nursing.

  • Serves as editor to Nursing Notes; participates on the Nursing Practice Calendar Committee.

  • Nursing outcomes year end highlights development;

  • Magnet document section chair;

  • Develops / provides professional presentations to a variety of internal and external customers

  • Serves as an expert resource for administering the Nursing Professional Advancement Ladder, Nursing Scholarship and DAISY program.

  • Supports the nurse manager of quality by: 1) maintaining, entering, analyzing data, 2) organizing data to create reports, particularly for nursing sensitive indicators, 3) Press Ganey National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) expert;
