The Brand & Illustration Designer will be a key creative force in representing and elevating Newsela’s visual identity. Reporting to the Interactive Designer Lead, you will support high-impact projects that shape how our brand is experienced across all touchpoints. In this role, you will help evolve our brand guidelines, maintain and expand our illustration library, and partner cross-functionally to ensure brand consistency while bringing fresh creative ideas to life.

What You'll Be Doing:
Creative & Brand
- Support the ideation and execution of strategic design projects that enhance Newsela’s brand identity.
- Present creative concepts and strategies to stakeholders, articulating the vision and impact of your designs.
- Support the development and refinement of Newsela’s visual brand standards, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market trends.
- Maintain and expand Newsela’s illustration library, ensuring consistency in style, color, and storytelling across all brand assets.
- Develop original illustrations and visual elements that enhance brand storytelling, marketing campaigns, and product experiences.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a creative partner for Marketing, Product, and other teams to deliver cohesive and compelling visual campaigns.
- Provide branding guidance and approvals to maintain consistency across all channels and materials.
Operational Excellence
- Manage project timelines, ensuring deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the design process and tools to drive efficiency and creativity.
About You:
- Design & Illustration Expertise: 4+ years of brand design experience (in-house or agency) with a robust portfolio showcasing impactful design solutions and illustrations.
- Creative Vision: Strong understanding of brand strategy and an ability to push creative boundaries while maintaining brand consistency.
- Illustration Skills: Proficiency in creating original illustrations and a keen eye for visual storytelling that aligns with brand identity.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, and other design tools.
- Communication Skills: Experience pitching and explaining designs and creative directions. Ability to explain the “why” behind design choices.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate business goals into compelling visual narratives and campaigns.
- Adaptability: A growth mindset, eager to stay ahead of design trends and apply them strategically to the EdTech space.
