What You Will Do:

  • Ensures that employees are prepared to demonstrate safe behaviors, understand quality requirements, achieve maximum production efficiency, and meet the production schedule.
  • Communicates with all functional areas of the organization – establishes priorities daily with production and maintenance employees and other manufacturing supervisors, and communicates regularly with other functional areas such as Sales, Quality, Purchasing, and Human Resources. May communicate with vendors and/or customers as required.
  • Ensures area, machinery and equipment meet all safety requirements and are free of recognized hazards.
  • Informs employees of manufacturing objectives and status of such with regular departmental meetings.
  • Schedules jobs and priorities and assigns personnel as required to meet production schedules.
  • Approves time and attendance for employees in assigned areas.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance on machines in department.
  • Maintains machinery and equipment by performing minor maintenance and instructs employees how to make minor repairs to equipment and machinery.
  • Ensures compliance with customer requirements, company specifications, Norris Quality Standards and API standards through routine quality checks, employee on-the-job training, and diligent adherence to standards.
  • Coaches employees and evaluates individual abilities in order to make decisions on retention of new hires and/or transfers.
  • Recognizes individual and departmental contributions to results.
  • Recommends and initiates disciplinary actions as required.
  • Promotes a workplace that is free from harassment and discrimination.
  • Implements good housekeeping initiatives, such as 5S, and maintains clean and organized work areas throughout the facility.
  • Identifies and promotes continuous improvement projects targeting quality, safety and productivity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED.

     or equivalent education and/or experience.

  • Five or more years of relevant experience.

Competencies, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present and influence at the leadership level.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Strong vendor management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong inventory management and order system knowledge.
  • System experience is a plus (Oracle, SAP)

Physical Demands:  

  • Must be able to easily and regularly lift and/or move, pull, or push up to 50 lbs.

  • Must stand for extended periods of time (8-10 hour work days / 5-6 days a week) while wearing steel toed shoes/boots on concrete floors.
  • Frequently required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination for repetitive motion. Must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that range from very small to large objects. Steady hand and good hand-eye coordination is needed.
  • Must frequently walk, push, and pull; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • The job is performed under some temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.  The employee occasionally works near machinery fluids and material wastes. 
  • The working environment is clearly marked for hazards and safety/emergency facilities are noted. 
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. 
  • Employees often come into contact with dust, dirt, grease, and paint on metal surfaces.
