Key Relationships

The Blending Operator interfaces with all levels of the Sycamore Plant organization and works closely with the maintenance, sanitation, and quality teams.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Blending Operator plays a critical role in our blending operations in Sycamore, IL. Incumbents in this role are responsible for all aspects of the production process from gathering raw materials to sifting, packing, and shipping of final products.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Carrying out responsibilities/duties according to food safety, legal and quality requirements to ensure that our products are fit for human consumption.

  • Compliance with procedures that implement the requirements of the EHS policies and procedures.

  • Being responsible for own actions

  • Carrying out work in a manner which does not present a risk to themselves, others, and the environment.

  • Comply with all environmental standards, procedures, and work instructions always.

  • Report any environmental violations, near misses or unsafe acts to prevent any impact upon the local environment, its inhabitants and Tate & Lyle.

  • Reporting all incidents, defects, hazards, and inadequacies of procedures so that appropriate review and corrective action can be taken.

  • Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHSQS Support’s activities and services are carried out in a safe, environmentally responsible, reliable and cost-effective manner.

  • Fully participate in the safety program, including reporting any incidents or near misses, training, auditing, etc.

  • Meeting and exceeding clear housekeeping/GMP standards and food safety protocols.

  • Moving, packing, and sorting raw materials or finished product packaging.

  • Monitoring the quality of output to identify, discard, or re-manufacture faulty products.

  • Maintaining accurate daily production records as input to manufacturing performance analysis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Blending operators additional EHSQ authority index responsibilities include:

    Supporting T&L’s environmental, health, safety, and quality policy in the execution of their job responsibilities in routine, non-routine and emergency conditions.

    Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any spills, equipment malfunctions, environmental conditions, or management practice that could represent an existing or potential safety hazard, food safety concern or significant environmental impact.

    Notifying their supervisor or EHSQ committee member of any conditions or practices that could represent nonconformance with the requirements of the EHSQMS or its supporting plans and procedures.

    Performance of the environmental, health and safety monitoring and inspections according to their job responsibilities and submittal of required records.

    Support lock tag try, confined space, hot work and work permits.

    Understand the LSPs and PPPs and how they apply to T&L’s work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Highschool diploma/GED, or equivalent experience required.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a 10-hour workday.

  • Must be able to climb stairs repeatedly.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to bend and squat.

  • Must be able to operate a forklift within 180 days of employment.

  • Must be able to manipulate bags weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must be able to manipulate bags weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE

  • Mechanically minded, with a capacity to think critically about production processes, flow, and equipment troubleshooting.

  • Eager to advance and learn new roles.

Starting Pay $22.23/hr
