Why Patients Need You
Pfizer’s purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer’s purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.
What You Will Achieve
The qualified candidate will join a dynamic lab working on drug candidates in both discovery and development, employing an array of analytical methodologies including HPLC/MS and NMR to quantitatively and qualitatively characterize metabolites from in-vitro and in-vivo drug metabolism studies. The candidate will contribute to developing and optimizing sample preparation workflows and analytical techniques to enhance sensitivity and throughput.
How You Will Achieve It
Support generation of metabolites for NMR characterization by incubating drug candidates in microsomal and/or hepatocyte systems
Support analysis of metabolites using analytical HPLC/MS and metabolite isolation using preparative HPLC
Acquire, process and interpret both 1D and 2D NMR spectra—such as 1H, 13C, COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY—to determine metabolite structures
Use 1H and 19F qNMR to measure the concentration of these isolates
Additionally, the candidate will work with LC-MS/MS data to provide orthogonal structural confirmation of drug metabolites
Document experimental results, perform critical review of data, and present findings internally and externally
Interact with peers and leaders in a multidisciplinary team
Qualifications
Must-Have
B.S. in Biochemistry or Chemistry
Familiarity with in vitro laboratory techniques
Coursework and practical lab experience with 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy
Solid grasp of organic chemistry and structure-activity relationships
Research or internship background in pharma, biotech, or CRO
Experience with qualitative and quantitative NMR software (e.g., MestReNova, TopSpin)
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity
Able to work independently and collaboratively
Effective scientific communication skills
Familiarity with troubleshooting of instrumentation
A commitment to timely delivery of quality work and overcoming obstacles in a fast-paced environment
Nice-to-Have
Familiarity with LC-MS/HRMS and metabolite profiling
A basic understanding of drug metabolism pathways (Phase I/II)
An Undergraduate thesis/capstone involving NMR structural characterization
Work Location Assignment: Hybrid
Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
Candidates must be authorized to be employed in the U.S. by any employer.
U.S. work visa sponsorship (such as TN, O-1, H-1B, etc.) is not available for this role now or in the future.
