The University of Miami/UHealth Office of the Dean has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Biostatistician 2 to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Biostatistician 2 provides advanced statistical support and implements new strategies and analysis options with project PIs. The Biostatistician 2 prepares written reports to document analytic activities and summarizing results and participates in the development and the testing of efficient protocols for the collection, verification, management, and analysis of large amounts of genotypic and phenotypic data. Further, the Biostatistician 2 serves as liaison between the more junior Biostatisticians of the department and the research community.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Finalizes analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis of files, consistency checks, tables, and figures.
2. Communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues.
3. Prepares data, conducts statistical analysis, and summarizes results for large research projects.
4. Interprets analyses and writes statistical sections of study reports.
5. Prepares results for progress reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
6. Maintains and documents studies’ databases.
7. Consults with study investigators on planning and specifying statistical analysis.
8. Provides support to resolve barriers to analysis and consults with other methodologists and statisticians.
9. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
Master's degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required

Department Specific Functions

Advanced Statistical Analysis & Bioinformatics

  • Perform complex statistical analyses and bioinformatics workflows on large-scale genomic, proteomic, lipidomic, and clinical datasets.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain reproducible data-processing pipelines using R, Python, Bash, and workflow management tools (e.g., Snakemake, Slurm).
  • Apply hypothesis testing, regression modeling (linear, logistic, Cox, mixed/random effects), dimensionality reduction, and machine learning techniques to biological and clinical data.

Multi-Omics Data Integration & Quality Control

  • Integrate and analyze multi-omics datasets (genomic, proteomic, lipidomic) to identify biomarkers and inform research hypotheses.
  • Conduct rigorous quality control, outlier detection, and data wrangling using advanced statistical and computational methods.

Collaborative Research & Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with principal investigators, research scientists, and external partners on multi-institutional projects.
  • Advise graduate students and postdocs on statistical methods, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and data visualization strategies.
  • Present and explain complex analytical results to diverse audiences, including clinicians, scientists, trainees, and collaborators.

Visualization, Reporting & Scientific Communication

  • Prepare publication-quality figures and tables using ggplot2, tidyverse, and other visualization tools.
  • Draft and revise manuscripts, grant applications, and technical reports, integrating data interpretation and results synthesis.
  • Summarize results for progress reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

Data Management & Compliance

  • Manage secure storage, maintenance, and access control of sensitive data in cloud and HPC/cluster environments.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, HIPAA regulations, and best practices for data security and integrity.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                     

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or related field (e.g., M.S. in Biotechnology with Bioinformatics concentration).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or computational biology, with demonstrated responsibility for advanced statistical analysis, multi-omics data integration, and collaborative research projects.
  • Experience in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and technical reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Advanced proficiency in R, Python, Bash, workflow management (Snakemake, Slurm), and cloud/HPC environments.
  • Expertise in hypothesis testing, regression modeling, dimensionality reduction, machine learning, and data visualization.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in critical decision-making.
  • Commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and molecular techniques (PCR, Sanger sequencing, CRISPR-Cas9, molecular cloning) is a plus
