We have an opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join their team of staff.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

  • Carry out Mohs technical procedures including tissue preparation, inking, orientation, frozen section cutting, staining, and slide preparation to support real-time clinical decision-making.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic support to clinicians, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Assist in the provision of reliable and accurate analytical data in line with ISO 15189 standards.
  • Be responsible for the organisation, coordination, and day-to-day management of the Mohs laboratory service.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of a patient-focused, efficient Mohs service in collaboration with Dermatology and Histopathology teams.
  • Take responsibility for all technical aspects of the Mohs service, including equipment management, maintenance scheduling, stock control, and consumables.
  • Maintain all associated departmental documentation, records, SOPs, and quality assurance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189, UKAS, Health & Safety legislation, and local governance frameworks.
  • Participate in internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service evaluations.
  • Support the investigation of incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, ensuring learning is embedded into practice.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • MSc (or working towards) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology.
  • Significant experience working in a Cellular Pathology / Histopathology laboratory.
  • Demonstrated competence in Mohs micrographic surgery techniques.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 15189 standards and UKAS accreditation requirements.
  • Experience in quality assurance, audit, and documentation control.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
