Biobehavioral Human-Machine Teaming & AI Researcher
Who You Are:
As a member of the Vehicle Safety, Engineering, & Defense Research Lab, you will be
working with the Biometrics & Sensing group. You will be applying your expertise in
autonomous systems, human-machine teaming, biometrics, and data science for
developing innovative approaches to the development of novel biobehavioral user
understanding. As a researcher in this group, you will implement your solutions in
driving simulators, on vehicles, and publish your research findings in peer-reviewed
journals to extend the reach of General Motors’ development of next-generation
technology. This will also include interfacing with universities, research institutes, and
other advanced technology laboratories to build a network for amplifying your research.
What You Do:
Develop immersive user experience simulation solutions for automated driving-
enabled vehicles and robotic systems
Create tools to aid in the development or deployment of human-vehicle interface
solutions
Conduct user studies to enable evidence-based decisions about in-vehicle
interfaces
Participate in government-funded research work
Document your research through internal and external publications
Facilitate technology transfer via active participation in cross-functional teams
What You Need:
Advanced Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics-related
field
5+ years of research experience in at least one of the following areas:
Autonomous Vehicle Technology, Human-Machine Teaming, Robotics, Biometrics
Sensing, Driving Simulation, or other related areas
Strong theoretical, experimental or software programming skills
What Would be Even Better:
PhD in a related area
Hands-on experience with biometric-based user interfaces
Hands-on experience building and using real-time simulators to develop
autonomous systems and human-machine interfaces
Experience with data analysis or AI/Machine Learning for engineering
applications
Familiarity with ROS or ROS 2 robotics framework
Hands-on experience running user studies in a driving simulator
Demonstrates leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service
organizations
