The Billing Specialist at Awardco is responsible for executing the end-to-end billing lifecycle to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant invoicing for our customers. This role will review customer agreements, configure accounts, and maintain high-quality data across our billing systems to support precise revenue recognition. Partnering closely with Finance, Revenue, and Customer teams, this position helps translate complex contract terms into clean, auditable billing and revenue schedules. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable with accounting principles, and adaptable to evolving processes and tools.                        

What you will do: 

  • Execute the end-to-end billing lifecycle, from contract review through invoice generation, ensuring accuracy and completeness for all customer billings.
  • Perform contract administration by reviewing customer agreements for accuracy, confirming pricing and terms, and ensuring proper account configuration within customer accounts.
  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile revenue recognition schedules in accordance with ASC 606/IFRS principles, with a focus on deferred revenue and mid‑cycle adjustments.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by providing accurate billing data, revenue schedules, and supporting documentation to the Finance team.
  • Conduct regular data verification and audits of customer records to ensure data cleanliness and alignment between executed contracts and system entries.
  • Verify that customer metadata, contract terms, and product SKUs are mapped accurately, proactively identifying and resolving anomalies to maintain the integrity of the billing engine.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Success, Legal, and Accounting to clarify contract terms, resolve billing disputes, and address customer inquiries.
  • Monitor and resolve billing exceptions, credits, and adjustments, ensuring changes are appropriately documented and reflected in both billing and revenue schedules.
  • Document and maintain billing procedures, checklists, and controls to support accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing workflows and system configurations, contributing to scalable, efficient, and compliant processes as Awardco grows.

What you will bring:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
  • Fundamental understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Refined written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non‑finance stakeholders professionally.
  • Demonstrated high attention to detail, with a track record of accurate data entry and reconciliation.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with a proactive approach to evolving workflows and processes in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with ERP or billing systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar) and strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets for analysis and reconciliation.
  • Experience working with revenue recognition (ASC 606) and deferred revenue schedules.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, implement controls, and support audits in a high-volume, data-driven billing environment.
