Position Description:

The Data Quality Intern will assist in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Barry Wehmiller’s data estate. This entry-level role supports the data team by helping with basic data profiling, cleansing, and documentation tasks. In addition, this internship gives exposure to Generative AI & ML for anomaly detection, data classification, coding & rule creation along with Agentic AI (MCP) for autonomous workflows. The intern will learn how to collaborate with data professionals and business users to maintain data quality standards and support data-driven decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data management and analytics within a global organization.

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of data analysis techniques. In addition, this role will be part of a collaborative, purposeful and passionate team in the manufacturing industry operating with agility and leveraging modern architecture, tools & processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Leverage AI within our Data Governance and Data Quality platform to accelerate insights and simplify user interactions.
  • Experiment with AI technologies and techniques to solve data quality pain points.
  • Profile datasets and utilize platform AI features to identify anomalies and inconsistencies.
  • Support data collection and preparation activities under guidance.
  • Help document data quality standards and processes.
  • Perform basic data cleansing tasks and update records as directed.
  • Generate simple reports and summaries of data quality findings.
  • Collaborate with team members to learn best practices in data quality and governance.
  • Maintain organized documentation for data quality activities.

Job Specifications:

  • Basic knowledge of data analysis tools (Excel required; exposure to SQL or Python is a plus).
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Acquire knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.
  • Build confidence in collaborating within a professional IT and data team environment.
  • Understand the fundamentals of data quality management and its role in business decision-making.
  • Gain hands-on experience with AI driven data profiling and cleansing techniques.
  • Use basic data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, and introductory Python).
  • Implement and leverage data profiling in our Data Governance and Data Quality platform.
  • Leverage AI for automated data rules and documentation.
  • Work with our internal Data Quality/Master Data Management (MDM) team and stakeholders to design data cleansing and data quality rules on our Data Governance and Data Quality platform.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Working on a degree in IT, business analytics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science or related degrees.
  • Degrees outside of this area may be considered if the candidate has integrated data and analytics methods within that degree and is interested in further pursing data analytics related careers.
     

Position Type:

  • This is a regular, full-time position.
  • This position is an on-site position and required to be physically in the office in our Clayton, Mo location.

The physical demands described here are representative of the those performed in the job duties.  The employee sits at a desk and uses a computer for prolonged periods of time.  Performing the role frequently uses close vision, speech, hearing, and dexterity to operate office equipment.  The intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
