NIPD - NJ has an opening for a Behavioral Intervention Specialist. This is a clinical position which involves the assignment to several programs where the BIS is responsible for the assessment of individuals’ habilitative, behavioral and psychiatric needs and the development and implementation of effective interventions to help support those needs. The BISs effectiveness depends on implementing the person-centered values and beliefs, their capacity to form and maintain good relationships, their ability to identify and assist staff to employ best practices that will improve the person’s situation, and their effectiveness as advocates for necessary changes in service practices. The position involves training staff to ensure the interventions are understood, consistently implemented as documented and data is taken to effectively evaluate progress. The BIS will also spend significant time interacting with individuals, assessing their ADL skills, promoting habilitation and/or rehabilitation, as well as providing for the health/safety and well-being of the individuals at all times. In addition, the BIS is responsible for ensuring that all the treatment and habilitative needs of the people receiving supports are addressed, all staff are trained, all program plans are implemented properly and consistently, and all documentation is maintained.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in the field of Psychology, Social Work or related field required
  • Master’s Degree in the field of Psychology, Social Work or related field preferred
  • One year of experience working with developmental disabilities
Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm or 10:00 am-6:00 pm with some flexibility required for staff meetings, etc.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Willing to take initiative
  • Extensive knowledge of developmental disabilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical syndromes.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments.
  • Ability to write clinical reports, goals/outcomes and treatment plans in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to train staff in an effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally in training staff and professional presentations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Travel to various programs and flexibility in schedule required

Compensation: $50,618
