Job Title: Engineering Leader – BCC Program 

Location: BCC Region – India 
Reporting To: Transit India Engineering Leader & Program Manager (Global)  
Team Size: 5 Engineers (Subject Matter Experts across technologies / commodities) 

 

Role Objective: 

Lead a cross-functional engineering team to execute the BCC Kaizen cost-saving program by localizing parts, validating suppliers, and supporting exports from India to global Transit and EU sites. Drive Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacture strategies while managing stakeholder expectations across subsystems and global teams. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Team Leadership & Technical Oversight 

  • Lead and mentor a team of 5 engineers with expertise in:  

  • Electronics  

  • Wire Harness 

  • Castings & Forgings 

  • Sheet Metal (Stampings, Paints, Heat Treatment) 

  • Special Processes (Welding, Brazing, Anodizing, Plating, etc.) 

  • Ensure technical excellence and timely execution of localization and validation tasks. 

2. Engineering Execution & Localization 

  • Drive engineering feasibility for parts sourced from Indian suppliers. 

  • Define and validate local equivalent materials and specifications. 

  • Ensure compliance with global standards and support drawing updates with raw material equivalence. 

3. Supplier Engagement & Validation 

  • Collaborate with sourcing and supplier quality teams for RFQ specification, supplier selection, and feasibility commitment. 

  • Own validation activities including external lab testing, WITEC lab coordination, and field trials. 

  • Approve suppliers’ post-validation and ensure readiness for serial production. 

4. Stakeholder & Program Management 

  • Manage expectations of different Transit PL i.e. Brakes& Couplers, Access, Current collection, etc 

  • Represent engineering in program reviews, audits, and supplier feasibility discussions. 

  • Support part approval /deviation management from suppliers to coordinate with global engineering if required  

5. Design-to-Cost & Design-for-Manufacture 

  • Implement DTC and DFM principles across transferred and new designs. 

  • Optimize product and process designs to achieve cost reduction targets. 

  • Support NPI initiatives with India-first engineering strategies. 

  • Drive Should Cost initiatives working closely with Should Costing and Sourcing teams 

6. Change Management & Documentation 

  • Lead PCR/ECR (Product/Engineering Change Request) processes in coordination with Global Sites. 

  • Ensure documentation packages are complete, validated, and compliant with global standards. 

  • Maintain traceability and audit readiness for all engineering deliverables. 

 

 

 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s/ Master's in mechanical, Electrical, Electronic or Manufacturing Engineering. 

  • 10 to 12 years of Overall experience with 3+ years in engineering leadership roles. 

  • Proven track record in team management across diverse technologies. 

  • Experience in global sourcing, supplier validation, and cost optimization. 

  • Strong understanding of rail systems, subsystems, and body structure engineering. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Familiarity with PLM, IQPS, E-RFQ tools. 

  • Exposure to EU compliance standards and export documentation. 

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-cultural communication skills. 

  • Prior exposure to global sourcing and export-oriented manufacturing. 

  • Experience working with EU standards and compliance requirements. 

  • Hands-on experience with Indian supplier ecosystem in fabrication, machining, casting, or engineered systems.  

 

Performance Metrics: 

  • % Cost Reduction (Target: >6% YoY) 

  • Lead Time Reduction (Target: 350 to 150 days) 

  • Supplier Validation Success Rate 

  • Number of PNs qualified and approved for export 

  • Team delivery against Kaizen milestones
