Manufacturing Support Specialist - Bar Finish

Primary Duties

  • Provide support to the Manufacturing area with consideration for the goals and objectives of the organization.

  • Develop weekly operations and manpower schedules.

  • Create complex reports, charts and graphs in support of the Area Manager and makes recommendations based on analysis of the results. 

  • Performs project assignments and leads small project teams within and outside of own area. 

  • Work with personnel, systems and equipment to achieve and maintain desired work center performance. 

  • Proactively identifies work center performance issues and makes recommendations to correct them. 

  • Maintain expert knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including the computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.

  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, and process and maintenance technologies. 

  • Review manufacturing line-ups for accuracy and identify/recommend improvements. 

  • Reviews and reschedules production orders as necessary in order to maintain an efficient flow of material. 

  • Provides assistance to less experienced Manufacturing Support Specialists.

  • Orders and stocks parts, supplies, measuring tools and hand tools. 

  • Identifies and implements parts and supplies cost reduction initiatives.

  • Develops SOP and FMEA documents.

  • Develop and implement of equipment scheduling rates and guidelines. 

  • Responsible for equipment TPM planning, RMR and SPC analysis. 

  • Develop materials and provide training to process operators.

  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required for the Manufacturing Support Specialist

  • High School Diploma required.  Four-year college degree preferred.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience.

  • Interpret customer needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to non-standard requests.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.

  • Ability to evaluate and recommend new equipment, and process and maintenance technologies.

  • Ability to perform independent work on larger assignments requiring experience and independent judgment.

  • Ability to manage small projects across outside of own area.

  • Ability to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware.

  • Ability to work in a production oriented environment.

  • Ability to provide assistance to less experienced coworkers.

  • Ability to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving skills and project management skills.
