Organizational Overview:
Synchrony's Risk Team provides independent oversight of Synchrony’s risk-taking activities to ensure safety and soundness, meet regulatory and legal requirements, and manage risks to the risk-appetite of the Board. Risk is responsible for independently assessing, quantifying, and overseeing risks & providing effective challenge. Risk serves as Synchrony’s Second Line of Defense.
Overall, Risk Team oversees and manages the Risk Program to support the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues and challenges. Results are consistent with the respective strategic uses and complying with related overall risk, risk testing policies, standards, procedures as well as regulations. Our Risk organization consists of 4 pillars: Compliance, Credit & Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk. Each of the pillars play a vital role in managing Risk and supports the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues, and challenges.
Role Summary/Purpose:
The AVP, Treasury Operations Oversight will be an individual contributor within the Treasury Risk Oversight team, which is part of the Finance and Treasury Risk organization. This position plays an instrumental role in enforcing the team’s oversight of operational risks associated with Treasury operations, including effectiveness of controls in its processes, risk assessment of payment related strategic initiatives, and issue management. The position holder will interact frequently with Treasury teams and Enterprise Risk.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead or support targeted reviews of Treasury processes focused on operational risk, controls and critical-to-compliance (CTC) testing per annual monitoring plan, or on an ad hoc basis as instructed
Lead or support concurrent or post-implementation reviews of milestones of strategic initiatives, e.g., Payment Hub, and NACHA related initiatives in particular
Manage issues relating to Treasury operational risk, including issues tiering, opening, action plan tracking, and closing
Cover enterprise-wide risk activities including but not limited to risk assessment questionnaire (RAQ), process risk control self-assessment (PRCSA), enterprise risk assessment (ERA), and risk aggregation reporting (RAR)
Prepare and collect materials pertinent to Treasury Risk for quarterly Financial Risk Working Group (FRWG) meetings in collaboration with FTR leadership and cross-functional teams
Support FTR tasks as assigned, e.g., biweekly market updates, regulatory exams, internal audits, annual limits refresh, etc.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 5+ years’ of experience in operational risk management in Finance or Treasury operations, or in related supporting roles within a large financial institution are required. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 7+ years’ of relevant experience is required.
3 years of ACH (Automatic Clearance Services) experience.
Ability to manage a review and/ or task from beginning to end with minimal guidance to meet tight deadlines
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
Working knowledge of payment systems and technology
Understanding of NACHA operating rules
Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) credential
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 5+ years’ of experience in operational risk management in Finance or Treasury operations, or in related supporting roles within a large financial institution are required. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 7+ years’ of relevant experience is required.
3 years of ACH (Automatic Clearance Services) experience.
Work Timings:
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
