Job Overview:
The AVP, Strategic Sourcing (Lead Negotiator) will lead complex, high‑value negotiations and competitive sourcing events to drive measurable cost reduction, improved commercial terms, and risk‑aligned contracting outcomes across third‑party spend. This individual contributor role is built for a best‑in‑class negotiator who can independently run major deal cycles end‑to‑end (strategy, leverage creation, supplier positioning, negotiation execution, and close).
This role is a key execution arm of LPL’s third‑party spend optimization engine and will partner closely with Finance, Legal, Third‑Party Risk (TPRM), and Business leaders to deliver disciplined savings and durable run‑rate impact.
Responsibilities:
Lead major negotiations for high‑risk, high‑value vendor contracts (MSAs, SaaS agreements, SOWs, renewals, amendments), driving optimal total value: price, terms, flexibility, and risk posture.
Build and execute negotiation strategies that create leverage: baselines, options, competitive tension (RFx where appropriate), and stakeholder alignment on walk‑away positions.
Drive RFx processes end‑to‑end (requirements gathering, supplier engagement, evaluation, negotiation, selection, contracting) for assigned categories and vendor cohorts.
Partner with Finance (FP&A) on savings methodology and documentation so negotiated outcomes translate to trackable savings recognition.
Coordinate with Legal and Risk (TPRM) to ensure contracts are compliant, risk‑aware, and operationally executable (not “paper wins”).
Maintain deal discipline: clear decision points, escalation paths, and clean artifacts (negotiation one‑pagers, decision logs, key term summaries).
Provide concise, executive‑ready updates on negotiation status, key levers, and decisions required.
What does your success look like in the first 90 days?
Establish a negotiation pipeline aligned to the third‑party spend optimization work and renewal calendar, with prioritized deal sequencing and timelines.
Deliver early “proof points” by closing 1–2 meaningful negotiations with documented savings and improved commercial terms (pricing protections, indexing, rate cards, audit rights, termination flexibility where feasible).
Stand up a repeatable negotiation operating rhythm with cross‑functional partners (Finance/Legal/Risk/BU): cadence, escalation, documentation standards, and decision SLAs.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for strong collaborators who deliver exceptional client experiences and thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. Our ideal candidates pursue greatness, act with integrity, and are driven to help our clients succeed. We value those who embrace creativity, continuous improvement, and contribute to a culture where we win together and create and share joy in our work.
Requirements:
Experience: 7–10+ years in procurement/strategic sourcing/vendor management with a heavy concentration in leading complex negotiations and renewals.
Negotiation mastery: Demonstrated ability to create leverage, control the process, and close effectively—comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and suppliers.
Contract fluency: Strong working knowledge of contract constructs (MSA/SOW/SaaS/EULA), renewals, term/termination, and commercial levers; able to partner tightly with sourcing, Legal, Risk, and the business.
Governance & compliance: Working knowledge of policy‑driven procurement and third‑party risk workflows; ability to get to “yes” without bypassing required controls.
Tools & reporting: Strong Excel; able to produce clean negotiation trackers, savings documentation, and executive‑ready summaries.
Stakeholder skills: Proven ability to coordinate across Finance, Legal, Risk, and BU leaders; crisp written updates and meeting facilitation.
Core Competencies:
Negotiation excellence: Creates leverage, frames options, manages brinksmanship appropriately, and closes cleanly.
Executive presence: Crisp communication, credible with senior leaders, escalates early with clear recommended paths.
Commercial judgment: Balances savings with risk, flexibility, and long‑term value; avoids false economies.
Ownership & pace: Drives parallel negotiations without losing details; bias to action and resolution.
Professionalism & resilience: Calm under pressure; handles sensitive vendor dynamics cleanly.
Intellectual curiosity & levity: Hungry to learn, seeks feedback, and brings a sense of humor that keeps intense negotiations and fastpaced environments productive.
