Job Overview:

The Assistant Vice President, People Systems Portfolio Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the delivery, prioritization, and optimization of the People Systems portfolio—primarily centered on Workday. This role manages the enterprise People Systems backlogs, ensures effective intake and governance processes, and oversees a team of administrative focused resources.


The AVP partners closely with the People Team’s Centers of Excellence (COEs), IT, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure that system solutions are delivered efficiently, align with business needs, and support the company’s long-term people strategy.

Responsibilities:

Portfolio & Backlog Management

  • Own and manage the full People Systems portfolio, including roadmap maintenance, release planning, and prioritization across Workday and related systems.

  • Maintain and optimize backlogs for enhancement requests, defects, integrations, reporting, and new functionality.

  • Lead intake and governance processes ensuring requests are evaluated for business value, feasibility, and alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Ensure clear, actionable requirements in partnership with Product Owners and SMEs.

  • Partner with functional system leads to ensure proper sequencing, resourcing, and change management.

  • Serve as a People systems portfolio expert, ensuring that demand aligns with product capabilities, roadmap updates, and release cycles.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a team of 2–3 direct reports, primarily focused on documentation, administration, and operational tasks supporting People Systems.

  • Coach and develop staff; drive workload balance and growth plans.

  • Evaluate day-to-day administrative tasks to eliminate redundancies, introduce automated solutions, and standardize processes that improve accuracy and turnaround times.

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused culture.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Act as a primary liaison between People Systems, People leadership, and business partner to ensure transparency and alignment on priorities and timelines.

  • Deliver clear, consistent communication on project status, risks, resource constraints, and upcoming changes.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with IT, Security, Finance, and third-party vendors.

  • Manage internal governance processes required to adopt new systems and features (e.g.Software Acquisition Process, AI Governance review, Procurement contracting, etc.)

Operational Excellence

  • Enhance tools, processes, and frameworks for work intake, prioritization, sprint planning, and project governance.

  • Support governance processes, including Procurement, Technology Software Acquisition, and AI Council.

  • Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to identify improvements and ensure delivery excellence.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and capabilities within Workday, Cornerstone, and adjacent tools to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in HR Technology, People Systems, or related portfolio/program management roles.

Core Competencies:

  • Hands-on experience with Workday (multiple modules preferred).

  • Proven ability to manage complex backlogs and competing priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with direct reports or project teams.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferences:

  • Experience within a large financial-services or similarly regulated organization.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and portfolio management practices.

  • Experience partnering with cross-functional HR COEs and IT teams.


 

Pay Range:

$116,100-$193,500/year


 

Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
