Roles Summary/Purpose:
The AVP, Data Governance will support Synchrony's Data Governance and Quality Oversight function. This role will combine technical data quality and data analysis tasks with non-technical governance and operational risk responsibilities requiring strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the VP, Data Governance & Quality Oversight Leader to help improve data quality, strengthen risk management processes, and advance data governance maturity.

Essential Responsibilities:
Support oversight of data governance programs, including evaluation of data management policies, standards, and compliance with approved data management frameworks.
Perform independent analysis of data quality metrics and issue management trends to identify risk themes, emerging concerns, and areas requiring enhanced controls.
Review and challenge first line data quality rule execution, issue resolution, and control remediation activities for adequacy and effectiveness.
Perform operational risk assessments related to data usage, data sharing, and data quality, including controlled testing and documentation of evidence.
Document observations and risk themes, prepare reports, and present results to risk committees and governance forums.
Facilitate Risk data forum focused on improving governance and data quality risk management maturity.
Participate in the ongoing refinement of data risk oversight methodologies, processes, and tools.
Drive automation initiatives to streamline data governance processes, enhance monitoring capabilities, and improve efficiency of data quality controls and reporting.
Possesses knowledge of data lifecycle activities such as data definitions, data lineage and data quality
Mentor team members in data usage and governance practices across US and India risk teams
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the second line data risk oversight agenda
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or equivalent and 6 years of data governance experience or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 8+ years of data governance experience.
4+ years of experience performing data governance control reviews and challenge in a financial institution.
4+ years of advanced governance tools such as Collibra, Ab Initio, Tableau
Knowledge of data analysis tools such as SAS/ SQL
Experience with data analysis and data quality assessment techniques
Proven analytical skills with strong attention to detail and quality control of work product.
Ability to professionally collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders
Desired Characteristics:
Ability to work independently in fast paced environment with demonstrated ability to accomplish goals on complex, time sensitive projects
Strong PC proficiency (Microsoft Suite, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Strong data analysis, data governance background
Experience in financial services or banking industry with understanding of financial services regulatory environment
Master's / MBA degree preferred in economics, finance, or business.
Demonstrated data analysis experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to foster relationships and create informal networks, both internal and external.
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Grade/Level: 11
The salary range for this position is 115,000.00 - 200,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.
Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be 18 years or older
You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
