The future of aerospace and defense starts here.
Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team. A team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
As an Avionics Project Engineer, you will own the day-to-day planning and execution of avionics work performed by Avionics Technicians, ensuring resources, materials, and priorities are aligned to program need dates and production schedules. You will also work closely with Supply Chain, Program Management, Manufacturing, and Engineering to ensure sufficient inventory is available to support demand, schedules are achievable, and execution risks are identified early. The role also supports the Director of Avionics with special projects, investigations, and process improvement initiatives as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day work direction and prioritization to Avionics Technicians (no direct supervisory responsibility)
- Ensure technicians have clear understanding of work scope, sequencing, and priorities
- Allocate avionics technician resources across multiple programs, builds, and work orders
- Establish and continuously maintain task priorities to support production and test schedules
- Adjust plans dynamically as new work is introduced, priorities shift, or constraints emerge
- Identify schedule, capacity, or resource risks and communicate mitigation plans to leadership
- Own short and long-term planning of avionics work based on program schedules, build plans, and need dates
- Track work progress and completion status against plan. Coordinate resolution of execution issues that may impact cost, schedule, or quality. Report status weekly to Avionics Director.
- Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure sufficient quantities of avionics parts, components, and materials are available to meet production demand. Translate program schedules and work plans into material demand signals. Monitor inventory levels, shortages, and lead times related to avionics hardware
- Proactively identify material risks and drive timely ordering, expediting, or alternate sourcing as needed
- Support inventory accuracy and material readiness for upcoming builds and test activities
- Serve as a key coordination point between Avionics, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Engineering
- Communicate changes in priorities, schedules, or material status clearly and professionally
- Escalate risks, constraints, or conflicts in a timely and solution-oriented manner
- Foster a respectful and collaborative working environment with all team members
- Support the Director of Avionics with special projects, non-conformances, investigations, and improvement initiatives
- Assist in developing and refining planning, scheduling, and execution processes
- Help define and track metrics related to schedule adherence, material readiness, and execution performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or a related technical field or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and programs
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving program needs

- Experience supporting hardware development, production, or integration programs
- Familiarity with avionics, electronics, instrumentation, or embedded hardware assemblies
- Experience working closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, or Materials Planning teams
- Understanding of inventory management, material planning, and lead-time-driven scheduling
- Experience supporting multiple programs or production lines simultaneously
- Exposure to configuration control, non-conformance processes, or corrective action systems
