Job Summary: 

The AV Technician will be responsible for servicing both MLB/NHL event and small scale A/V productions for Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and multiple concert venues. In addition, the AV Technician will support the Broadcast AV Systems engineering staff in maintaining equipment and facilitating the daily production of live sporting events and concerts.

Key Responsibilities / Skill Requirements:

  • Responsible for operating audio equipment including digital/analog mixers and wireless mics for events and streaming video needs.

  • Assist Chief Engineer with daily maintenance of control room & engineering field cameras as well as video & audio routing systems.

  • Balance, adjust and troubleshoot Public Address systems within venues as well as private event set-up.

  • Manage front of house monitor control systems and in-ear monitor set-up for live, recorded and streamed programming across all media platforms.

  • Set up wireless system, RF monitoring and coordination for local and national broadcast partners throughout the NHL, NBA, NCAA as well as various other stakeholders.

  • Maintain current intercom systems such as Clear Comm and RTS in both maintenance and operation.  Researches and makes recommendations for new technology in this space.

  • Set-up and strike of audio systems for events ranging from small AV set-ups to national touring groups.

  • Set-up and strike of wired and wireless microphone systems including cabling, patching and set-up strategy for maximum results.

  • Setting up and operating AV systems for corporate clients and private events including microphones, mixer, amplifiers, speakers ,video monitors, switchers, computers and various presentation platforms.

  • Manage audio duties for select Red Wings, Pistons and Tigers games including arena mixing, system balancing, sound editing, mic’ing of drum lines, anthem singers, in-venue reporters and organist.

  • Direct communication with all clients for recommendations to meet their needs and fulfilling the resources to deliver a perfect show and experience.

  • Assists engineering team in equipment inventory, placing orders, verifying receipt and communicating department needs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school

  • Minimum two years of audio/visual experience working in live audio-visual corporate events.

  • Basic understanding of electricity and power management.

  • Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards.

  • High degree of customer focus.

  • Flexibility to accommodate last minute changes to event or meeting requirements.

  • Work cooperatively within a team.

  • Interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of LED digital systems, Daktronics equipment, Dante audio systems, Gran MA lighting system and Evertz Routers.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work extended hours, evenings, holidays and weekends.

  • Proficiency in taking direction and executing changes when necessary.

Preferred Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to handle a physically demanding work environment.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
