The Autonomy Engineer will support autonomy algorithms and software development, electronics integration, and system commissioning. You will utilize fundamental engineering knowledge and practices along with working experience to support design and development of autonomy algorithms for full or semi-autonomous applications. This individual performs assignments with minimal instruction and guidance from senior level engineers and managers. The role will support the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on autonomous vehicles and unmanned vehicle platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Autonomy Development
    • Define autonomy architecture, autonomy sensor selection, and functionality.
    • Defines and creates autonomy algorithms for specific systems in a ROS environment.
    • Develop and test autonomy performance through modeling, bench, and vehicle testing.
    • Integration and commissioning of prototype systems in development vehicles.
  • System Hardware Specification
    • Support design, selection, and integration of autonomy components.
    • Communicate mechanical requirements of system to design staff.
    • Identify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements.
    • Communicate wiring and connector requirements to support harness builds.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Interaction with current and potential customers regarding Pratt Miller systems.
  • Planning and program management on internal and customer projects.
  • Education / training.
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, team, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Be a team player.
  • Have great attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or MS in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronic Systems.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • ROS.
  • Linux.
  • Unreal.
  • Data acquisition hardware and software experience.
  • Vehicle and system troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of automotive, robotics, defense, or motorsports industries.
  • Communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, LIN, Wireless 802.11, DSRC).
  • Autonomous vehicle architecture and by-wire design.
  • C/C++ code development.
  • Python.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires light physical activity.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Daytime schedule Monday-Friday with infrequent night/weekend work for project surge support and additional effort as needed to achieve deadlines.
  • Some travel as required or on-site customer work.

Pay Range:

$78,400.00 - $121,500.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
