Job Summary: The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

Major Duties:

• This position is located in the Vehicle Management Division, Office of Logistical Services, Office of the Chief Administrative Office, United States Capitol Police (USCP). The Automotive Mechanic Supervisor serves as one of two shift supervisors in the Vehicle Management Division planning, assigning, monitoring, inspecting and evaluating work of shop personnel, providing training and skilled mechanical assistance; and performing administrative matters including employee evaluation and counseling, purchasing, workflow planning, development of work procedures, and development of preventive maintenance schedules. Supervises a diverse group of highly skilled employees certified in multiple areas of performing Automotive Worker and Automotive Mechanic work on vehicles, mountain bicycles, motorcycles, light towers, solar message boards, low speed vehicles, trailers etc. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the division. Provides oversite in the servicing, diagnosing, adjusting, replacing or rebuilding and repairing the complete range of fleet and equipment and related components. Maintains a comprehensive electronic record system of fleet assets repairs and services. Monitors and allocates current Fiscal Year Budget for Fleet services and prepares documentation and reporting measures. Establishes and approves service agreements with outside Vendors. Evaluates, authorizes, and certifies contracted repairs and verify the accuracy and legitimacy of overall charges. Considerable contact with outside vendors and suppliers requiring some negotiation skills.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. For the CP-09 level, you must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CP-08/GS-10 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes: 1) Providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work performed by automotive workers and/or mechanics; 2) Performing a full range of automotive repair and maintenance work on electric and internal combustion engines; 3) Testing and troubleshooting components and systems to locate equipment defects; 4) Interpreting and applying manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and safety manuals. AND MUST POSSESS current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in all of the following eight (8) areas listed below: Engine Repair Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Manual Drive Train and Axles Suspension and Steering Brakes Electrical/Electronic Systems Heating and Air Conditioning Engine Performance *Certifications Must Be Included to Consider Application Complete* All eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the vacancy announcement.
