Automation System EngineerAbout This Role:
Workplace Arrangements:
The schedule for this role is a Saturday – Wednesday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM onsite at our Johnstown Distribution Centre.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Monitor health of the system's automated adapters, vertical lifts, and automated robotic vehicles. Ensures respective operational or maintenance teams are notified of issues enabling them to respond quickly to problems and or failures. Ensure all KPI targets are met or exceeded for the department.
Responsible for the troubleshooting and application of diagnostic utilities to aid in system troubleshooting. Document and report issues to internal and 3rd party engineering teams and work with them on solutions.
Assist in supporting the escalation process with Symbotic customer support teams to ensure quick resolution of software and/or mechanical issues, software updates, or mechanical enhancements. Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems. Perform post-resolution follow-ups when needed.
Train and assist operators on overall system including automated adapters, vertical lifts, automated robotic vehicles, warehouse management systems, and any other IT problems. Communicating and documenting technical concepts clearly and concisely to the teams.
Complies with all GTW and equipment manufacturer's health and safety policies and procedures. Coordinates and supports, with H&S team, on safety procedures and training for all existing and new equipment that the automation team interacts with.
Perform ongoing activities such as backups, OS and application patching, executing various maintenance scripts, and monitoring the system's IT infrastructure
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelors degree in Controls, Computer, Automation, Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field or 4 years analyzing large operational datasets or leading continuous improvement initiatives in automated or warehouse environments.
Exceptional customer service orientation for 3rd party support teams
5 years experience troubleshooting and supporting technical systems or software, either remotely from an office or directly on-site in the field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze datasets, identify patterns, and determine potential root causes of issues.
2 years experience with supporting systems remotely by connecting to various system types via Remote Desktop, SSH, browser, etc.
2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting PLC-based automation systems.
2 years experience using SQL with ability to create and/or modify SQL scripts.
Good command of Linux shell and scripting
Can demonstrate effective and disciplined troubleshooting problem solving methodologies
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Assets You May Have:
2 years + of experience with TCP/IP based networks, protocols and troubleshooting.
2 years + of experience with Server and Storage Array hardware and Active Directory
2 years + of experience with writing and developing SOPs in a production environment
2 years + experience building or modifying graphic user displays
2 years + experience in logistics.
2 years + experience operating Symbotic adapter cells
2 years + experience using Symbotic’s property software, specifically the control center application.
Knowledge of warehouse management systems - Manhattan WMS preferred.

Salary
$58,400.00 - $87,600.00What Giant Tiger Offers:
Competitive Compensation: The salary range for this position is listed above. Giant Tiger will consider factors such as experience, skills and internal equity to ensure you are paid competitively.
Retirement Support: We contribute 6% of your annual base salary to a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP) on your behalf, no employee contribution required.
