Automation Summer Intern - Summer 2026 (In Office)

Indianapolis, IN, United States of America Full time

ADME Research Intern – Liver Organoid Microphysiological Systems Project

Location

On‑site (Indianapolis ADME / Bioanalysis)

Duration

3‑month summer internship

Position Summary

This internship supports a focused internal research project comparing human liver cell organoids with the Hurel® micro liver model for in vitro ADME applications. The intern will work alongside ADME scientists and an organoid specialist to generate high‑quality data on metabolic performance, clearance prediction, and operational feasibility. This role is ideal for a motivated student interested in drug metabolism, microphysiological systems, and hands‑on laboratory experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with organoid culture preparation, maintenance, and baseline characterization (morphology, functional markers, viability).
  • Support parallel ADME studies in organoids and Hurel® systems, including:
    • Plate setup and dosing of reference compounds.
    • Time‑course sampling for parent depletion and metabolite profiling.
    • Accurate sample labeling, tracking, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit samples for LC‑MS/MS analysis in collaboration with the bioanalytical team.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant laboratory records following SOPs.
  • Contribute to data organization and preliminary review of clearance, enzyme activity, and metabolite pathway results.
  • Participate in team discussions on operational feasibility (throughput, reproducibility, hands‑on time).
  • Support preparation of the final comparative data package and internal project deliverables.

Learning Opportunities

The intern will gain exposure to:

  • Human‑relevant microphysiological systems (organoids, micro liver models).
  • ADME concepts including intrinsic clearance, CYP activity, and metabolite identification.
  • LC‑MS/MS workflows and sample preparation.
  • Experimental design, time‑course studies, and data interpretation.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with ADME, organoid biology, and bioanalysis teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Foundational understanding of cell biology and basic laboratory techniques.
  • Comfort with aseptic technique, pipetting, and handling biological samples.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability with timing, and commitment to high‑quality documentation.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and maintain clean, organized workspaces.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with mammalian cell culture (not required but beneficial).
  • Familiarity with ADME concepts from coursework or lab experience.
  • Interest in microphysiological systems, organoids, or drug metabolism.
