About the role
Join DuPont Water Solutions at our South Windsor manufacturing site as an Automation & Process Control (A&PC) Engineer. You’ll keep our automation systems reliable and safe, respond to plant issues, and deliver improvements and capital projects across PLC/HMI/SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
- Improve equipment uptime by diagnosing and permanently fixing automation faults.
- Reduce risk through robust testing and Management of Change (MOC) practices.
- Deliver upgrades that improve safety, quality, yield, reliability and productivity.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for a hands-on electrical engineer with industrial automation experience and a strong safety mindset.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (or equivalent).
- 5+ years’ experience supporting automation/control systems in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Practical PLC/HMI capability (e.g., Rockwell CompactLogix & FactoryTalk View SE or equivalent) plus industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet).
- Instrumentation & process control fundamentals and field device troubleshooting (pressure, level, flow, temperature, control valves, analysers).
- Exposure to industrial electrical interfaces (MCCs, drives/VSDs) and safe work practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance and contractors.
- Desirable: hazard/risk assessment participation, functional specs, vendor/integrator management, FAT/SAT and commissioning.
Key responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC/HMI/SCADA and instrumentation issues to minimise downtime and quality impact.
- Own control system reliability practices: backups, version control, testing, commissioning and recovery.
- Ensure changes follow site Management of Change (MOC) and are properly risk assessed, tested and documented.
- Deliver A&PC improvements and support capital projects (scope, functional specs, vendor management, FAT/SAT, commissioning and handover).
- Maintain and uplift site standards & best practices (e.g., naming conventions, HMI standards) and support training for operations and support teams.
- Administer and improve the data historian (data quality, tag management) to support reporting and analysis.
- Help maintain control system cybersecurity hygiene (patching, access controls) in line with site/IT requirements.
- Act as the site Electrical Safety Professional (ESP) and coordinate the site electrical safety improvement process in line with DuPont EHS Standard S31G.
- Provide direction for site electrical safety, helping ensure compliance with local regulations and DuPont electrical safety requirements, and advising leaders on priorities and resourcing.
- Develop, analyse and share site electrical safety metrics with site leadership; participate in electrical incident and high-potential near-miss investigations.
- Support projects to ensure electrical systems are designed and installed using engineering solutions that minimise hazards (including involvement in inherently safer design decisions where required).
- Develop, review, and maintain electrical designs for plant modifications and capital projects, including power distribution, wiring schematics, and control architecture.
- Design, modify, and validate machine safety circuits and safety related control systems, including interlocks, emergency stops, failsafe systems, and safety PLC based systems.
- Lead electrical risk assessment, isolation plans, and incident investigations, and ensure electrical systems are engineered to minimise hazard by design.
- Ensure electrical documentation is kept current, accurate, and reflects as built plant conditions.
- Support electrical asset lifecycle management including obsolescence planning, standardization, and upgrade strategies.
What success looks like
- Automation issues are resolved quickly with clear root cause, robust fixes, and improved system reliability.
- Changes are implemented safely and consistently under MOC with strong testing and documentation.
- Operators and maintainers have confidence in the control systems and receive practical support and coaching.
- Data historian content is reliable and useful for production reporting and continuous improvement.
Improvement projects are delivered to scope, schedule and safety expectations with effective vendor management.
