Position Overview
The Automation Engineer is a hands-on manufacturing engineering role responsible for designing, building, debugging, installing, and improving automated equipment on the factory floor. This role works directly in production with technicians, operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing teams to deliver practical automation solutions that improve safety, uptime, yield, and throughput in a high‑volume electronics assembly environment. This is not a desk-only role. Regular time on the production floor is required, working directly on live equipment and automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
Production Support & Continuous Improvement
Respond to equipment downtime and lead root‑cause analysis
Improve cycle time, uptime, reliability, and yield on existing automated systems
Modify programs, tooling, and hardware to eliminate recurring issues
Implement poka‑yoke (error‑proofing) solutions
Support Lean manufacturing and cost‑reduction initiatives through automation
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Partner with Quality teams to improve inspection and test robustness
Collaborate with Maintenance to improve long‑term equipment reliability
Interface with external machine builders and system integrators during design, build, and commissioning
Programming & Debugging
Program, test, and debug PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
Develop and modify HMI interfaces for operators and technicians
Integrate, program, and tune industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, UR, or similar)
Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot vision inspection systems
Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls issues directly on the production floor
Installation & Commissioning
Lead and support installation of new automation equipment in production
Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
Perform:
I/O checks
Motion validation
Safety system verification
Interlock and guarding validation
Support production ramp‑up and process validation
Train operators, technicians, and maintenance teams on new equipment and systems
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field
3+ years of hands‑on experience in automation, controls, or manufacturing engineering
(Electronics manufacturing experience strongly preferred)
PLC programming experience (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
Strong working knowledge of:
Experience using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
Proven ability to troubleshoot live production equipment
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced factory floor environment
Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
Hands‑on robot integration experience (Fanuc, ABB, UR, or similar)
Experience with vision systems and automated inspection
Knowledge of SMT, PCBA assembly
Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles
Ability to use electrical diagnostic tools (multimeter, oscilloscope) and mechanical hand tools
Work Environment
Majority of time spent on the production floor
Direct interaction with live equipment, control panels, robots, and automation cells
Occasional weekend or off‑shift support may be required during installs or production ramp‑ups
