Job Summary
The Automation Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated systems and equipment to improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost in an electronics manufacturing environment. This role works closely with manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams to deliver robust automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop automation solutions for electronics assembly processes (e.g., SMT, testing, inspection, packaging, material handling)
Create mechanical, electrical, and control system designs, including drawings, schematics, and specifications
Program and debug PLCs, HMIs, robots, vision systems, and test equipment
Lead automation projects from concept through installation, validation, and production ramp-up
Troubleshoot and optimize existing automated equipment to improve uptime, yield, and cycle time
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and process engineers to define automation requirements
Support equipment acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and production qualification
Work with external vendors and integrators on equipment design, build, and commissioning
Ensure automation solutions meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
Develop documentation including work instructions, maintenance procedures, and training materials
Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost-reduction efforts
Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for new automation projects.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field
3+ years of experience in automation design or manufacturing engineering (electronics manufacturing preferred)
Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
Familiarity with sensors, actuators, servos, pneumatics, and industrial safety systems
Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred:
Mandarin speaker highly preferred
Experience with robotics (Fanuc, ABB, UR, or similar)
Vision systems and automated inspection experience
Knowledge of SMT, PCBA, or electronics test processes
Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
Hands-on experience with equipment build, debug, and installation work practices to support operational excellence
