What You Will Do:

  • Selected candidate will be well experienced in understanding of manufacturing processes and a proven track record of delivering complex digital & cyber-physical solutions on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • The Automation Controls Engineer will also provide mentorship, influence, and technical leadership in a hands-on environment, to assure strategy for development and deployment of software solutions for automating the factory in Asheville North Carolina.
  • The Engineer will demonstrate exceptional team guidance and interpersonal communication skills. This will involve the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing business requirements, and to oversee automation software development and integration through project timelines, timeline risk assessment, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products that meet business objectives.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with factory customers/stakeholders (IT, Data, Ops, Security) to gather technical requirements, identify, develop, and deploy automation and digital solutions.
  • Lead in defining technical project milestones including design, development, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS) into Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated abilities to identify roadblocks/risks, provide mitigations & solutions to continuously advance progress.
  • Support continuous improvement, upgrades, and sustainment of deployed automation systems using core Automation skills including PLC programming, Robotics programming, Vision programming, HMI programming, SCADA development and controls upgrades.
  • Provide technical functional strategy to project lifecycle from requirements generation through deployment and sustainment.
  • Responsible for aiding in developing and executing on a strategic plan, supporting factory automation/I4.0 roadmaps, and supporting the department’s product strategies/roadmaps driving common automated solutions.
  • Provide technical mentorship, development, and leadership.
  • Establish measurable technical goals for products, track progress using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and make data-informed adjustments to ensure optimal performance.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum of 5 years experience
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven project management skills with a track record of leading successful projects working to timelines.
  • Proven leadership abilities and independent self-starter.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Manufacturing processes and experience optimizing through automation.
  • Experience in databasing, and developing and integrating  SCADA (Ignition) systems.
  • Expertise in controls/hardware engineering, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and industrial networking.
  • Ability to travel on occasion (<10%)

This position is classified as:

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
