We are currently accepting applications for our February Class.

To be considered, you must be able to work at least 20 hours per week in a hospital unit at an Aurora Location after completing the program. Most students from this program will be placed into full-time, 3rd shift positions.

If your application is selected, the screening process will follow these steps and notifications will be sent by email and/or by text: Math Assessment; Screening Interview; Interview with Program Manager with 2nd Math Assessment (Monitored). We consider both internal and external applicants for this small class, so the screening process can take some time.

Class runs almost monthly ( https://careers.aah.org/career-areas/training-programs/ ) Mon - Thurs from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Perfect attendance is required, including no tardies. Classes are held at the Aurora Forest Home Business Center.

Once classes and exams are successfully completed, participants may be selected to work in a hospital unit. Placement is based in business need, but preferences may be taken into consideration.

  • Most placements are full-time, but a few part-time placements may be available
  • Most placements are 3rd shift, but other shifts may be available

Pay Range

$19.45 - $29.20

Major Responsibilities

Adheres to syllabus rules, attends all 88 hours of training, completes all classroom assignments and passes final exam with at least a 75%.

Upholds Aurora's vision, mission, and policies and procedures.

Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation which may include use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion and special transferring as indicated.

Measures and documents TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with instructor support.

Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately with instructor's support.

Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens as indicated using approved process for accurate specimen labeling and identification. Maintains competency as required.

Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection and assistance in eating.

Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.

Under the direction of RN and as determined by site/unit requirements, may be required to remove IVs, provide postmortem care, and bladder scans.

Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to observe data reflective of the patient's status and report the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Requirements:

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must provide an updated resume upon application
  • Must pass a math assessment (online and proctored)
  • Must be available for full-time or part-time work (at least 20 hours per week)
  • Must be available for 3rd shift work
  • Certification will be required for placement into a CNA position - requires passing a skills test and a knowledge test administered by a 3rd party
