Job Summary: About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Cavazos, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major Duties:

  • Use auditory brainstem testing to assist in locating the site of lesion within the auditory system.
  • Make determinations of physical profile status and fitness for duty in various military occupations.
  • Manage the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program which includes monitoring, collection of recorded data, reporting, notification of parents, counseling, education and follow up.
  • Select, administer, and interpret audiologic diagnostic test results, acoustic emittance tests, speech audiometry tests (threshold and recognition), interprets auditory evoked potential and otoacoustic emissions.
  • Develop diagnostic impressions and make recommendations, including referrals to medical and/or rehabilitative follow-up, as well as making work relatedness determination is cases of noise induced hearing loss.
  • Select and fit earmolds and hearing devices.
  • Counsel patients and families on test results, rehabilitation, and hearing aid use.

Basic Requirements for Audiologist: Degree: A graduate degree (or higher-level degree) that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice from an education program that was approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating audiology patients and educating or counseling on audiology treatment/topics. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
