Job Summary: This position is in Region 5, Office of Regional Counsel, Multi-Media Branch II, Section 4. About: Region 5. This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

Major Duties:

  • You will: Advise the Regional Administrator, Deputy Regional Administrator, Division and Office Directors and her/his staff on a variety of highly complex legal matters concerning labor and employment law to meet production, quality, equity, and compliance standards. Represent the Region in highly complex litigation of labor and employment law cases and matters, including responding to or preparing complaints, issuing, and responding to discovery requests, drafting motions and pleadings, trying cases, and bringing appeals to deliver mission-critical outcomes. Review and comment on the work product of staff attorneys; assign cases or matters to staff attorneys; manage and conduct regular docket reviews; respond to requests and inquiries on behalf of ORC management; and participate in calls, meetings, and briefings on behalf of ORC management to ensure fair performance management. Qualifications: NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the educational requirements, you must meet the minimum grade-specific qualifications as described below: To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level defined as experience in managing administrative and judicial litigation in employment and labor law, including independently handling complaints, grievances, discovery requests, and drafting motions and pleadings; representing cases before local, state, or federal employment and labor tribunals; and advising on employment and labor related matters to senior management executives. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
