Position Summary

The Controls/ Programming Engineering position researches, develops, designs, tests, and implements/installs controls components, equipment, systems, and networks. A Senior Professional position applies advanced knowledge of a job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex. This role supports the production of Firestone Racing tires for INDYCAR and other North American racing series.

Responsibilities

 Overview Controls Engineer

 This position is responsible for the development, improvement and maintenance of manufacturing equipment related to Racing Compound and Tire processing, development, and production.

The position coordinates the development and control of manufacturing process performance to maintain production equipment and improve both product and manufacturing quality at minimal cost.

 Assists Tech Center with development and investigative projects regarding manufacturing processes and equipment, and tire development and testing.

 Promotes, coordinates, and implements countermeasures to eliminate the possibility of recurrence of manufacturing challenges and improvement of scrap and waste.

 Maintains a close relationship with production, maintenance, and race engineering teammates.

 Work with plant engineer to improve and develop maintenance systems that support current and future manufacturing needs.

  Assists race tire engineering and production teams with product validation.

  Implements corporate engineering and safety mandates.

 Work closely with plant manager and plant engineer with capital improvement projects and 5-year capital budget development.

 Support business continuity planning and corresponding projects.

Minimum requirements for Quality & Process Engineer:

 Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or related field

 Strong communication skills.

 Willingness to attend selected courses to maintain skills and to maintain technical liaisons with manufacturers and suppliers that have equipment that can be used to improve processes and equipment, technical professionals, and manufacturing personnel competent in the tire manufacturing industry.

 

Physical Requirements

The controls engineer must be able to maneuver around and inspect all areas of production equipment. The controls engineer will occasionally need to lift heavy objects and or assist others. All safety requirements need to be met for and activity (LOTO, fall protection, MEO, etc.) as directed by safety.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
