Position Summary/Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to assist GCU's Athletic Communications Staff in the day-to-day duties of the office including statistical coverage of sporting events, writing, and research for publications.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential Functions:
- Assist GCU's athletic communications staff in the collection of statistics at games. This will include using NCAA statistical software. Emphasis on baseball/softball knowledge. Including knowledge of basketball, volleyball and soccer.
- General support of GCU's athletic media operations which may include pregame setup and postgame takedown of media-specific equipment such as tablets, printers and computers.
- Assist with in-office duties such as researching and writing student-athlete and coaching bios.
- Assist with in-office work including research projects, media guide publication and game notes.
- Use team social media accounts to provide in-game coverage, as assigned.
Equipment Used and Responsibility:
This position will use a laptop. The position may also work with stat tablets and DSLR cameras. Software use includes NCAA LiveStats, Statbroadcast, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office as well as other industry-specific platforms. Training will be provided but any prior knowledge in any of the listed platforms is beneficial.
Qualifications:
- Strong sports knowledge, including soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and apply in-depth understanding of sports.
- Strong technological proficiency.
- Reliable, dependable, collaborative and communicative.
- Ability to consistently work at GCU sporting events which are often held on nights, weekends and holidays. Schedule will be set 1-2 weeks in advance, when possible.
Experience/Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
- Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
- Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
