SUMMARY: Serves GCU students or staff by providing superior rehabilitative care; to educate the GCU community on injury prevention,
rehabilitation, wellness and other health related issues; and to maintain the highest standard of care and integrity at the Canyon Health and
Wellness Clinic.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This is a temporary position. Eligible to participate in academic calendar breaks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes excellent patient care by utilizing appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and
treat injuries.

Communicates with Canyon Health and Wellness providers regarding patients’ conditions, treatments and protocols.
Develops home exercise programs for patients and request follow up visits to review status of exercise programs in its
rehabilitative measures.

• Devises rehabilitation and treatment programs in conjunction with standing orders provided by physician oversight.
• Understands and comply with all CAATE standards relevant to clinical athletic training education.
Collaborates with the faculty of the CONHCP to help provide educational programming by fulfilling the responsibilities and
expectations of a GCU preceptor.

• Conducts injury screening and assessments for students, staff and/or faculty of GCU.
Assists with day to day operations of the orthopedic clinic (e.g. stocking supplies, cleaning, equipment maintenance,
answering phones, etc.)

• Completes all documentation in a timely manner.
• Provides statistical reports by controlling the collection of treatment and clinical data to ensure quality management.
• Provides patients and the GCU community with education in the areas of injury prevention and wellness.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal
networks; participating in professional organizations; and maintaining licensure.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of injury prevention and treatment principles that fall within the scope of practice of an athletic trainer.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, HIPPA regulations.
• Computer and electronic medical record experience (or willing to train).
• Proficient in using and maintaining therapeutic modalities.
• Possess ability to craft policies and protocols pertinent to the orthopedic rehabilitation clinic with approval.
• Ability to perform quality improvement studies.
An effective and collaborative team player with ability to communicate and interact with all levels within GCU and diverse
cultures.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a good command of the English language.
• Demonstrates a high level of initiative; judicious in carrying out assignments without direction.
Strong planning and organizational skills. Demonstrates a systematic approach in carrying out assignments. Effectively
establishes and meets priorities and timelines.

Strong Analytical Skills. Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, collect and research data, and design work
flows and procedures.

Demonstrates knowledge in navigating and maneuvering routine office software (PACS, email, MS Office Suite, etc.) and
proprietary software.

Education and/or Experience:
• A bachelor’s degree in athletic training; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an athletic trainer providing rehabilitation services.
• Licensed at an Athletic Trainer in the State of Arizona
• Certifications: BOC, CPR, AED, First Aid
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described are representative of those typically performed during

Work is performed in a medical clinic and involves both providing healthcare services for patients and office work; frequent
standing is necessary during peak periods.

• Frequently involves contact with biological/biohazard material including blood, urine, mucous, fecal matter, tissue, etc.
Frequently involves contact with needles and potential for needle sticks; utilizes hands and fingers to administer medical
tests, draw blood, operate equipment.

Work occasionally involves inputting data, preparing reports on a computer or laptop; constantly involves the use of hands,
wrists, fingers, shoulders and forearms for keyboarding and movement of a mouse.

Occasionally involves the use of a computer monitor or computer output to peruse, assess, compare, research, interpret,
analyze data and information from a variety of sources including manuals, journals, internet sources, documents and
spreadsheets.

• Occasionally involves standing, walking, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, climbing.
Frequently involves the ability to communicate with others through a variety of means including in person, telephonically or
other readily available technology and utilize active listening and accurate decoding of information.

Occasionally requires the ability to move about the medical clinic, campus and office environment which may involve climbing
stairs.

Constantly requires mental acuity to follow strict protocols; for planning, organizing, assessing information, analyzing data; the
