The Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) Support Program provides Air Traffic Control services to Defence locations across Australia. This nationally significant program encompasses radar systems, data processing platforms, communications infrastructure and advanced ATM capabilities that ensure safe and efficient military aviation operations nationwide.

The ATCSS Engineering Lead plays a pivotal role in providing strategic technical leadership and expertise in the management and execution of engineering activities specifically related to the ATCSS sub-system.  The role is critical in addressing complex system issues, fostering effective team collaboration, and maintaining the ongoing engineering capability and performance of the ADATS program

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide authoritative technical direction, guidance and mentoring to the ATCSS IPT team, ensuring adherence to engineering and safety standards across all activities.
  • Develop and maintain ATCSS IPT task schedules, tracking progress against plans and reporting status to the System IPT Lead and program management
  • Oversee the planning and execution of ATCSS tasking activities, ensuring all deliverables meet customer requirements and company quality processes.
  • Serve as the primary Point of Contact for ATCSS IPT communications with internal and external stakeholders, allocating and managing team resources to meet program demands


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • University Degree in Engineering with a significant Electrical Engineering component, supported by a minimum of 6 years relevant experience and minimum professional development sufficient to attain recognition as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering management practices including work scheduling, prioritisation, coaching and process execution.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage engineering teams autonomously, communicate effectively across stakeholder groups, analyse and solve difficult technical problems, and deliver outcomes under schedule and budget pressure
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical design, including configuration control, Military Standard component/subsystem selection and procurement, and familiarity with AS3000 Wiring Rules.
  • Demonstrated experience in system integration and testing, with technical competency across requirements engineering interface/cable design, EME, grounding, bonding and power distribution.
