Basic Function:  

The Associate Web and Email Developer supports Fairfield University’s digital communications by executing high-quality email campaigns and maintaining web content in the Cascade CMS. This junior-level position combines technical execution with visual layout skills to build responsive, accessible, and engaging digital experiences that support Fairfield University’s communications goals with efficiency and attention to detail.

This role is part of the centralized Digital Marketing team and collaborates with designers, developers, and content strategists to deliver timely and effective digital projects. The developer will work on a balanced mix of email and web tasks, supporting both ongoing communications and strategic initiatives.

Unusual Work Conditions:

-  Hybrid work schedule

-  Occasional need to test emails across devices and platforms

-  Tight turnaround times for some campaigns

Education and Experience Requirements:

-  Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications)

-  1–3 years of professional experience in web and email development

-  Experience working within a CMS; Cascade CMS experience preferred or similar platform experience

-  Familiarity with Web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)

-  Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS; some exposure to JavaScript or PHP preferred

-  Comfort working with design files (e.g., Adobe XD, Figma, Photoshop)

-  Must be highly detail-oriented with a strong eye for clean, effective design and layout across both web and email formats.

-  Organized and detail-oriented with strong communication and troubleshooting skills

Essential Functions:

-  Develop and maintain responsive web content using HTML/CSS within Cascade CMS

-  Build, test, and troubleshoot HTML email campaigns in Emma

-  Optimize digital assets for performance, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness

-  Collaborate with designers and developers to translate mockups into functioning emails and web components

-  Assist with integrating marketing technology platforms and tools when needed

-  Apply brand guidelines and editorial tone across email and web deliverables

-  QA and test emails across clients and devices to ensure flawless rendering

-  Monitor project timelines and deliverables in collaboration with project leads

-  Troubleshoot technical issues and implement quick fixes where appropriate

-  Support university departments with technical questions related to email and web content
