About you and this role

Join our team as Associate Tax Specialist in Terneuzen, the Netherlands!

In this role you will be responsible for Indirect and/or Direct Tax Compliance for multiple Dow companies. You will be responsible to ensure Tax filings are done on time as per legal due dates. By using our up-to-date systems and tools you will be analyzing financial information and translating this into information useful for Tax purposes within a small geography/country or business. You will also support activities related to local tax issues, audits, compliance, tax policy and tax planning. Involvement in projects will be part of your development as well

You will be working in a high performance, multi-cultural, cross-functional team environment. We are focused on employee and department development. Key words are compliance, learning, work process improvements, continued digitization, and efficiency. You will be part of the Tax Operations EMEAI organization. The department has around 20 employees, most of them located in Terneuzen (NL). We are responsible for all taxes for all Dow legal entities in this region. In total there are over 100 registrations in more than 30 countries

Responsibilities

  • Review tax returns as per country’s tax requirements. This will be in the area of Indirect Tax (VAT, Intrastat, Sales list), in close relation with our Outsourcing service provider.
  • Prepare local taxes (Property tax, Energy tax, Excise tax). Supporting activities to prepare Direct Tax (Withholding Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Transfer pricing).
  • Support communication links to Tax Authorities, External Audit Staff, and Tax Advisors.
  • Provide support for annual tax activities management with respect to country tax legislation (i.e. Annual Income Tax, Annual Tax Declaration including Schedules, Annual Tax Information and External Audits).
  • Preparation of balance sheet account reconciliation and follow up on open items
  • Able to work independently on Tax activities, under guidance of Country Tax manager
  • Identifies work process improvement opportunities and/or automation opportunities
  • Recognizes and solves typical problems that can occur in work area by evaluating and selecting solutions from established operating procedures and/or analytical/scientific methods under a moderate degree of supervision
  • Acts in compliance with SOX policies and procedures.

Qualification

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Tax or Finance
  • 1-5 years of experience in Tax and a good understanding of accounting
  • Good understanding of Tax principles (VAT, Corporate Income Tax, Transfer Pricing)
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken). Multi-language skills are a plus.

  • Experience in MS application skills such as Teams, Sharepoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and reporting tools.
  • Team Player with a Positive attitude.
  • Focus on work process improvements.
  • Good analytical skills and problem solving.
  • Interest for digitization.
  • Proven communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills.
