Your Team & Role:

The Associate, Sustainable Finance (Oceania) role sits within Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG’s) Asian Investment Banking Department (AIBD) product team and plays a key role in driving sustainable finance origination and execution across MUFG’s client franchise in Oceania, aligned to the Bank’s core market and strategic targets. The role supports the delivery of sustainable finance solutions across sectors, working closely with coverage, product and capital markets teams (Loan Syndications and Debt Capital Markets to execute transactions efficiently and at scale.

What you'll do:

As an Associate, Sustainable Finance, you will support senior leaders in the origination, structuring and execution of sustainable finance transactions. The role combines client‑facing engagement, transaction execution support and internal coordination across product, coverage and regional teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the Vice President and Head of Sustainable Finance (Oceania) in the origination and execution of labelled and sustainability‑linked financing solutions, working closely with coverage teams and capital markets colleagues
  • Prepare high‑quality client materials, including pitch decks, bank presentations to launch transactions, financing proposals, market updates, peer analyses, and senior management or Board‑level materials
  • Support transaction execution by coordinating internal stakeholders, managing execution timelines, and reviewing legal documentation
  • Assist in the structuring and delivery of sustainable finance solutions, including use‑of‑proceeds loans and bonds (green, social and transition finance), sustainability‑linked loans and bonds, and carbon finance solutions
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of relevant market standards and frameworks, including the Green Loan Principles, Sustainability‑Linked Loan Principles, Climate Bonds Standard and Australian Taxonomy
  • Participate in client meetings, market engagement initiatives and industry events to support sustainable finance origination efforts
  • Apply a risk‑aware approach to transaction execution in line with internal sustainable finance governance and validation frameworks

What you bring:

You will bring a strong foundation in banking or a related field, with technical capability across corporate finance and treasury structures, and a good understanding of sustainable finance solutions.

Key experience and capabilities include:

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in banking (institutional or structured finance), treasury, sustainable finance, management consulting or corporate law
  • Degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics or Law; additional qualifications (MBA, CFA, CA) are advantageous but not essential
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and treasury facilities and structures, including term loans, revolving credit facilities (RCFs), Asian term loans, and bond instruments (including AMTNs and EMTNs)
  • Good understanding of sustainable finance structures, including use‑of‑proceeds loans and bonds (green, social and transition finance) and sustainability‑linked loans and bonds
  • Proven ability to prepare clear, high‑quality presentations for senior client audiences
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight timelines
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across product, coverage and regional teams
  • Experience supporting the execution of complex financial transactions, including legal documentation review coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrable negotiation skills with internal partners and external counterparties
