Purpose of the Position
In this role, the Sustainability Associate will focus on the development, management, and analysis of sustainability data to support Pantheon’s ESG monitoring, analytics, and reporting requirements.
Working across large and complex datasets sourced from internal systems, underlying investment managers, and third-party ESG data providers, the Associate will play a key role in transforming raw sustainability data into robust, decision-useful insights.
A core focus of the role will be on climate and portfolio-level analytics, including carbon footprinting, emissions intensity, and other key ESG metrics. The role will also contribute to improving the scalability, automation, and integrity of Pantheon’s sustainability data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Sustainability Data Management & Engineering
- Support the end-to-end sustainability data lifecycle, including sourcing, ingestion, validation, and storage
- Work with internal teams and external providers to collect and standardise ESG data across multiple asset classes and managers
- Maintain and enhance structured sustainability datasets, ensuring alignment with broader portfolio data systems
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality control across multiple sources
- Support the design and implementation of scalable data processes and workflows, including automation where appropriate
Analytics & Insight Generation
- Analyze large sustainability datasets to generate portfolio-level insights and trends
- Support the calculation and validation of climate and ESG metrics, including carbon footprint, carbon intensity, and other KPIs
- Develop and maintain dashboards and visualisations (e.g. Power BI) to support internal decision-making and reporting
- Translate data outputs into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders
Reporting & Regulatory Data
- Support the production of sustainability reporting outputs, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and auditability
- Contribute to regulatory and client reporting requirements, including TCFD, SFDR, and bespoke investor requests
- Assist in preparing datasets and analysis underpinning disclosures and reports
Systems & Process Enhancement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and scalability of sustainability data processes
- Support the development and enhancement of data tools and systems (e.g. Power BI, Power Automate, internal platforms)
- Work with internal data and technology teams to integrate ESG data into broader data architecture
- Support the evaluation and onboarding of external ESG data providers
Other Responsibilities
- Support monitoring of sustainability incidents and data-driven risk indicators across the portfolio
- Collaborate with investment, reporting, data, legal & compliance, and investor relations teams
- Build an understanding of Pantheon’s ESG integration approach and data requirements across strategies
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Experience
- 3–4 years of experience in a highly data-driven role within a financial institution
- Background at an LP, asset manager, or institutional investor strongly preferred
- Experience working with investment, portfolio, or ESG datasets
Technical & Data Skills
- Strong data analytics capabilities, with experience handling large and complex datasets
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Experience with data visualisation and workflow tools (e.g. Power BI, Power Automate)
- Programming or querying experience (e.g. Python, SQL) highly desirable
- Familiarity with data modelling, data quality frameworks, and process automation is advantageous

- Exposure to ESG or sustainability data, metrics, or reporting frameworks (e.g. TCFD, SFDR)
- Experience with ESG data providers (e.g. MSCI, Sustainalytics, Bloomberg)
- Understanding of private markets / fund of funds structures
- Experience supporting system or process transformation initiatives
- Relevant financial or technical qualification (e.g. CFA, IMC, data science certifications)
