Position Description
The mission of the Anoka County Facilities Management & Construction department is to provide a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained environment at the highest standard of excellence for the citizens and employees of Anoka County.
The department has an immediate opening for an Associate Space Planner, who plays a key role in implementing, coordinating, and verifying strategic space planning initiatives for Anoka County facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, including blueprints, as-builts, and other key documentation. Working collaboratively with project and operations managers across the county, the Associate Space Planner supports capital maintenance, construction, and commissioning efforts.
In this role, you will handle essential project management functions for small- to mid-sized construction initiatives. This includes coordinating with internal stakeholders, external vendors, contractors, and inspection officials to move projects forward smoothly. Additionally, the role will support furniture and furnishing projects, as well as related furniture inventory.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of January 26th, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

- Salary: $57,262 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour).
- 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30: $57,262 to $77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).

Work Location
- This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303. This role may involve periodic travel to various Anoka County facilities.
- Expected work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This position may be eligible for hybrid work after the successful completion of a probationary period.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Associate Space Planner.
- Provide project management support, coordination, and on-site field verification for space planning, development, design, outfitting, furnishing, installation, and retrofitting projects across Anoka County buildings and facilities.
- Assist in the implementation of county-wide standards for space utilization, interior materials, finishes, and furnishings. Conduct research and provide informed recommendations to support design consistency and quality.
- Design and produce detailed layouts for renovations and space reconfigurations; coordinate the installation of systems furniture, ensure compliance with established county standards, and manage all aspects of furniture moves.
- Create and maintain accurate records, including blueprints and as-builts, to digitally model county buildings. This includes verifying dimensions and integrating elements such as walls, cabinetry, fixtures, appliances, floor slopes, ceilings, vertical components (e.g., doors, windows, ceiling heights), structural systems (e.g., plates, beams), exterior features (e.g., soffits, fascia, siding, roof pitches), and all relevant plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.
- Support the development and maintenance of relationships with county stakeholders to understand their organizational profiles and objectives. Use this knowledge to inform space planning that considers demographics, sociological factors, interdepartmental relationships, and safety/security needs.
- Manage and coordinate all building signage throughout the county, including design, placement, procurement, and collaboration with local post offices and city planning authorities to ensure accurate and compliant implementation.
- Serve as an interior design consultant, partnering with purchasing and risk management teams to develop, specify, and procure standard furnishings that align with county standards and functional needs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Knowledge of design and construction standards and techniques.
- Familiarity with State and local Building, Safety, and Fire codes and regulations, including Americans with Disabilities (ADA) guidelines.
- Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with basic budgets and cost control.
- Experience in basic design and construction contract management.
- Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
- Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- Degree or certification in Architecture, Space Planning, Interior Design, Facilities, Project or Construction Management, or closely related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Standard office environment, and outdoor work sites in all weather conditions depending on assignment.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.
- Ability to see colors, shades and brightness.
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
- Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties.
- Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.
- Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment.
- Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
- Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed.
- Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.
