The Associate Relations Specialist, Tier 1, provides day-to-day support for basic P&O needs to all line managers and associates across MVH North America's network of hospitals and business units. The role will ensure that associate issues and needs are resolved fairly and objectively, in line with the Mars Five Principles. A key focus of this role is to provide Associate Relations support and issue resolution across all levels of the organization, and to mitigate adverse labor impacts by leveraging deep policy and regulatory knowledge and appropriately escalating Tier 2 and Tier 3 concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Interpretation & Advising: Interpret company policies and procedures for Associates and managers, offering real-time solutions to Associate Relations issues. Identify appropriate company policies or processes applicable to the situation; interpret and provide direction, ensure clear communication and understanding.
  • Associate Relations Matters: Identify and mitigate risk by serving as the first point of contact for Associate Relations concerns, providing guidance and resolution, or escalation. Maintain detailed and accurate records of Associate Relations cases. Review, advise, and support managers with executing disciplinary actions related to standard Associate Relations issues. Escalate complex Associate Relations issues for timely and accurate resolution.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Process and respond to unemployment claims; monitor adverse results, review compliance with background checks and assess employment eligibility. Advise on all leave and accommodation policies and processes. Maintain current knowledge on relevant employment/labor laws and a thorough understanding of all company employment policies. Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with employment laws/regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Legal, Compliance, Risk and Safety, and Payroll to ensure adherence to company policies and employment regulations. Assist in updating Associate Relations documentation, including contribution to updating policies and procedures. Participate in ad-hoc projects as needed, contributing to broader P&O and company initiatives and continuous process improvements.
  • Support Talent mobility across Business Units by providing eligibility status of current and previous Associates to Talent Acquisition.
  • Other duties as assigned

Context and Scope:

  • Provide guidance to P&O Business Partners, Line Managers, and associates on the resolution of Tier 1 Associate relations inquiries and cases
  • Participate in investigations and own investigation documentation/follow up on Tier 1 issues
  • Analyze and evaluate investigative findings and provide recommendations on suggested resolutions
  • Maintain and reference documentation for more effective case management
  • Leverage best practices, trends, and regulatory developments to identify areas of improvement and communicate suggestions to the Tier 1 Associate Relations Lead
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of legal developments and leading industry labor relations practices

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree in human resources, Business, or related field.
  • Three or more years of experience working in P&O, providing Associate relations expertise
  • Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals across all levels of the organization
  • Deep knowledge of applicable employment and labor laws.
  • Ability to rapidly mobilize and manage internal and external resources to mitigate risks to the MVH business and reputation
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong conflict management skills
  • Ability to work independently and own discrete areas of responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work effectively with line managers while managing competing projects
