Associate, Private Infrastructure

As an Associate for Nuveen’s Global Infrastructure team focused on private equity infrastructure investments, your role will include supporting the origination of new investments as well as portfolio management and surveillance activities across the firm’s existing private equity investment portfolios which includes direct equity joint ventures, private equity fund commitments, co-investments, and preferred security investments.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in underwriting and oversight of direct equity and equity-like investments by working with senior deal team members to execute on due diligence including financial modeling, asset-level due diligence, underwriting and drafting of investment committee materials. Drive portfolio management process by responding to external and internal business partner inquiries, preparing board materials and presentations, assisting various business partners to address valuation, accounting, legal and compliance deliverables and other quantitative and qualitative analysis as needed on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Assist in screening, underwriting and structuring limited partnership commitments with external infrastructure fund managers; Underwriting to include sector analysis, fund manager comparisons, track record assessment and attribution analysis to ensure investments meet investment strategy criteria; Work with senior deal team members to source, select, and underwrite co-investments across all infrastructure subsectors.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on existing infrastructure portfolio.
  • Assist in portfolio activities including portfolio reviews, market research, Risk analysis, rating agency reviews, sponsor evaluation, and investment modifications.
  • Assist in researching and analyzing both macro and portfolio trends, regulatory policy, and legal frameworks to help drive investment goals and portfolio construction. This will include screening and executing direct equity, co-investment, private equity fund commitments, and preferred equity investments. Multi-sector infrastructure strategy includes investments in transportation, power, renewable energy, storage, digital infrastructure (data centers, fiber optic networks, towers, DNS, etc.) and social infrastructure (campus energy, student housing, healthcare, etc.)
  • Work with internal business partners to ensure all legal, compliance, and accounting requirements are met.
  • Prepare memoranda and other materials used to support investment and portfolio recommendations and to communicate with internal business partners and external clients.
  • Closely monitor the performance of existing portfolio investments and manage regular communication with sponsors, investment partners, and banking intermediaries.
  • Maintain investment performance databases and files.
  • Support the internal Sales and Product team’s third-party distribution efforts for Nuveen’s private infrastructure investments.

Required:

  • 2 + years of institutional investment and/or private equity infrastructure/project finance and valuation experience.
  • Strong financial modeling experience in MS Excel and similar software packages.
  • Prior investment experience with infrastructure or energy assets.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and/or CFA.
  • 3 + years of institutional investment and/or private equity infrastructure/project finance and valuation experience.
  • Broad industry experience in power, transportation, renewable energy, etc.
  • Knowledge and ongoing interest in, current trends, success factors, participants and industry terms in infrastructure and energy investment markets
  • Familiarity with project documents, service agreements, joint venture agreements, limited partnership agreements, financing agreements, etc. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing and using financial statement analysis and financial modeling
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and finance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work hard in a team-oriented, performance-based environments

Base Pay Range: $112,000/yr - $154,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
