What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Director, Multi-Asset and Currency research, the incumbent will deliver high-quality, frequent, and actionable investment research grounded in well-articulated, forward-looking insights to influence portfolio decisions. You will conduct risk analysis and thematic research to support portfolio management, and contribute to the development of economic and financial market models.

How you’ll succeed

  • Be at the forefront of global markets: Leverage your deep understanding of financial markets and macroeconomic trends to deliver timely and actionable investment research that drives informed investment decisions. Interpret complex market signals, identify emerging risks and opportunities.

  • Navigate uncertainty with confidence: Thrive in a fast-paced environment where your ability to make informed decisions under pressure is valued and essential.

  • Deliver frequent and high-quality analysis and present findings to key stakeholders.

  • Construct econometric models (Python, Eviews) to forecast expected returns in various asset classes (FX, yields, equities, options, commodities).

  • Contribute to the development of our internal communication and research platforms (PowerBI, Python).

  • Compliance requirements: As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. They must also be registrable to the various securities commissions across Canada.

Who you are

  • You have strong critical thinking skills—you can navigate complex situations effectively.

  • You’re a certified professional. Master’s degree in Economics, International Finance or related field. CFA designation (or on way to completion) is an asset.

  • You have at least 7 years of experience in high-quality macroeconomic analysis within financial markets, with a strong grasp of global macroeconomic dynamics, central banking, and capital markets.

  • You leverage technology. You are proficient with research and quantitative modeling tools (such as PowerBI, EViews, and Python).

  • You are an effective communicator. You excel in communication, writing, and presentation, enabling you to clearly convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.

  • You build relationships. You are mature, with strong interpersonal skills that allow you to thrive in a collaborative, teamwork-oriented environment.
