Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We’re looking for an Associate Platform Engineer with proven Jira administration experience to join our Digital Team, where you’ll support the smooth operation and continuous improvement of NZTA’s digital platforms.

In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to help manage platforms, contribute to system development, and implement automation and DevOps practices. You’ll collaborate with a wide range of teams across the organisation, gaining exposure to modern engineering tools, cloud technologies and enterprise-scale platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the management, performance, security and reliability of digital platforms

  • Assisting with the design, development, testing and deployment of system features

  • Contributing to automation, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code practices

  • Working with product owners, architects, cyber security and technology teams to meet business needs

  • Participating in code reviews and engineering best practice

  • Learning from and supporting senior engineers while building your technical capability

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You’re curious, collaborative and keen to learn, with a solid foundation in technology and a desire to grow as a platform engineer.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience or understanding of the software development lifecycle

  • Exposure to SaaS platforms such as ServiceNow and Jira

  • Interest or experience in DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC, automation)

  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (preferably Azure), scripting or automation tools

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others

Nice to have:

  • Experience with tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Terraform or monitoring platforms

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent practical experience

You will also demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga and te reo Māori, and an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies in the public service.
