Summary
Summary The Associate Operations Supervisor is an exempt leadership role responsible for progressively managing daily waste collection operations. This position directly supervises drivers and helpers while developing the capability to independently oversee a full service area.
The role exercises independent judgment in coordinating route execution, addressing operational issues, and managing employee performance, while receiving guidance from Operations leadership. Over time, the Associate Operations Supervisor is expected to assume increased ownership of operational responsibilities and team performance.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise drivers and helpers across assigned routes or service areas
- Plan, assign, and monitor daily route operations to ensure timely and efficient service
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management, including corrective action and documentation
- Participate in hiring activities, including interviewing and providing input on candidate selection
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Conduct ride-alongs and field observations to evaluate safety, service quality, and route efficiency
- Analyze route performance, overtime, and operational data to drive improvements
- Make real-time operational decisions to address service disruptions, staffing gaps, and route challenges
- Partner with Maintenance to ensure fleet readiness and minimize downtime
- Oversee completion and accuracy of DVIRs, inspections, and required documentation
- Lead team communications, including daily check-ins, safety meetings, and performance expectations
- Support resolution of customer service issues in a timely and effective manner

- Progress toward full ownership of route operations and team performance
- Build proficiency in labor management, route optimization, and cost control
- Strengthen leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities
- Prepare for advancement into an Operations Supervisor role
Performance Expectations
- Demonstrate effective decision-making in day-to-day operations and problem resolution
- Show accountability and ownership of operational results, including safety, service, and efficiency
- Maintain strong communication with both internal teams and external customers
- Consistently meet or exceed Supervisor-level KPIs in Safety, Service, and Environmental performance
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in operations, logistics, or a related field
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated leadership potential with a strong willingness to learn
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or willingness to obtain
- Experience in a lead, driver, or helper role preferred
- Prior experience in the waste, transportation, or logistics industry preferred
- Experience with Workday, SoftPak or Fleetio
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure

- Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, & noise occasionally.
- Exposure to grease, oil, chemicals, & wet conditions occasionally.
- Works inside only. Position considered office only.
