About the job:
The Marketing Experience Engineering (MXE) team is seeking an Associate Software Engineering Manager to oversee a globally-distributed team of software engineers across two critical workstreams: developing and maintaining our Drupal-based websites and managing our Adobe EDDL infrastructure in Pune, India. This role is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned technical software engineer ready to transition into people management, and it will heavily leverage your prior software development experience. While previous formal management experience is not strictly required, demonstrated leadership experience through team lead activities, project management, or direct people management is essential.
The ideal candidate brings a strong strategic mindset, advocates for the long-term technical and product health of our Drupal-based websites and Adobe infrastructure, and uses data and metrics to guide our team's decision-making. You thrive in complex, globally-distributed environments, enjoy simplifying technical and resourcing challenges, and are a trusted partner across engineering and marketing teams who depend on your sound judgment and clear technical and people direction.
What will you do?
Daily interaction with the platform teams and all aspects of people management that overlaps partially with US timezones
Work with the individual technical leads, management, and product owners to plan and track the team's work, report on progress in planning and review meetings, and help the team to reach technical consensus
Coordinate with program/project management and oversee resource allocation
Represent the team at functional meetings, customer, partner, and developer discussions
Support the coaching and personal development of engineers on the teams
What will you bring?
Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
2+ years of leadership experience through direct people management, team lead activities, or project management
Strong technical understanding of the domain (Content Management Systems, Drupal, Adobe Launch, Marketing Analytics)
Basic knowledge of Javascript and Typescript
The flexibility to work with a widely distributed and remote team
The ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under pressure and tight deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A background in computer software development
The following are considered a plus:
Proven track record of handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and working under pressure (demonstrated in prior roles)
Troubleshooting skills with a passion for problem-solving, investigation, and learning new technologies
Familiarity with open source software and open source as a business model
Familiarity with Red Hat's product portfolio and subscription business model
