Role Overview

The Associate, Institutional Client Portfolio Management (CPM) supports the Institutional business by acting as bridge between investment management and distribution. The associate CPM will combine investment expertise across one or more asset classes with a commercial mindset to bring the best of BMO GAM’s capabilities to bear in solving for the complex needs of institutional investors.

Key accountabilities include supporting portfolio data and analytics requests, producing thoughtful and high-quality commentary, supporting strategic projects, and proactively identifying opportunities to leverage our investment capabilities in the institutional space.

The role involves a high level of visibility and requires close collaboration across several teams including Portfolio Management, Sales, Marketing, Product, and Data and Analytics. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong investment acumen, excellent communication skills, and a high degree of adaptability as they collaborate with colleagues across the organization.

Accountabilities

Investment Analytics & Portfolio Support

  • Prepare and maintain portfolio analytics using platforms such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar, and internal systems.
  • Work with the Analytics team and assist in the setup, maintenance, and interpretation of performance attribution and reporting across institutional mandates.
  • Develop a strong understanding of portfolio construction frameworks, asset allocation decisions, and positioning across strategies.
  • Support investment solution design for the institutional business, leveraging analytical skills and knowledge of asset allocation principles.

Content Creation & Investment Communication

  • Draft high‑quality investment materials including market commentaries, portfolio reviews, investment updates, and internal briefing notes.
  • Support the development and ongoing improvement of pitch decks, client review materials, and institutional presentations.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications teams to ensure investment content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with institutional standards.
  • Support the Head of Institutional Client Portfolio Management in creating thought leadership pieces

Coordination & Project Support

  • Act as a point of coordination between Client Portfolio Management, Portfolio Management, Product, Sales, and Operations teams on analytics, reporting, and investment‑related initiatives.
  • Proactively follow up on deliverables, resolve data or process issues, and ensure timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Support strategic initiatives including new product development and enhancements to institutional offerings.
  • Contribute to responses for RFPs, due diligence questionnaires, consultant reviews, and ad‑hoc institutional requests.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience

  • CFA designation (or progress toward CFA)
  • 2–5 years’ experience in asset management, investment consulting, or capital markets, ideally in an investment analytics, research, CPM, or portfolio management role.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio construction and asset allocation concepts as they relate to different types of institutional investors.
  • Broad investment knowledge across asset classes, with depth in one or more areas.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with performance analysis, attribution, and investment data.
  • Skilled in the use of some, or all, of the following software: FactSet, Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and professional materials.
  • High attention to detail and strong judgement; commitment to accuracy and quality in all deliverables.
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of the institutional investment landscape and client needs.
  • Highly adaptable, self‑directed, and comfortable working in an environment with evolving priorities.

Salary:

$63 700,00 - $118 300,00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
